Help! I a trying to get onto a DMP, for which I now have all the paperwork, but I can't seem to open a basic account as our credit rating is obviously shot! I dont have any CCJ's and am not in arrears yet, I am not over my overdraft limit. I think it is just through trying to get things which require a credit check and also, the amount of credit we currently owe on. Why can't I open a basic account without an over draft or cheque book? Just tried the Co-op cashminder account, and it has been referred for a decision, which could take a week. I don't have a week, I still need to notify my employer of change of account for my wages to go into once I have a new account.

    Hi

Got a young family, mortgage (£160k) and too many credit cards. We currently owe around £40,000 on five different cards & two loans, and have a bank overdraft of around £3500. We have been having to borrow money from the cards, to put in the bank account to pay the bills, and its getting to a point now where we have no funds available. I work full time and the wife does an average of 10 days per month, but our outgoings are in excess of earnings. We would really appreciate some help in starting the process to get back to some stability. We havent got flash cars/designer clothes or anything of that nature, so its not that we live a millionaires lifestyle, its just past and current poor money management thats got us into this!

Any positive advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a rather complicated situation with the Northern Rock. We have a personal loan with them (unsecured - £19,500) which costs £197 per month. At the moment my sister kindly pays this for us (I have no pride left!!) via direct debit and therefore this one is not a problem but CCCS say I have to include this in the DMP as no creditor should get preferential treatment. However, what I'm worried about is that if sister stops paying the DD we are in effect £197 worse off and will only have £200 to pay DMP as opposed to the £390 CCCS have worked out. Also due to the large debt I'm scared that if we go onto a payment plan the Northern Rock will apply to make us bankrupt. We also have another smaller unsecured loan (£9500) with the Northern Rock which is paid along with our mortgage - we needed this extra when we took the mortgage out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If I self-administered I wondered if I could leave this out of my calculations or would my other creditors see it on my credit file (do they look at this when you send in your DMP offer?).

I am so worried about these two loans as because our mortgage is with the NR they may just pursue us for the whole lot - almost £30,000 is a lot of money they could recoup if we went bankrupt.

Also - I am paying back a student grant overpayment (not a student loan) - this is interest free so should it be included in my DMP? They are happy with their current payment.
No more credit for me - I will no longer live beyond my means :A

    Hi there councillors,
I have heard that come next april, new european legislation comes into effect which gives creditors the power to force people to sell their houses if they are in debt, fall behind with their payments or if they are in a DMP, this will effect hundreds of thousands of people myself included as I have a DMP. I am worried that come next year I am going to loose my home. Is there any truth in this, I have seen that there is an online petition to the government not to give creditors this power. many thanks for your time and for being so sympathetic to those of us who are struggling to get out of debt.

    Hello everyone,

I am 25 and have about £12,000 of debt mainly as result of gambling. Last month I spoke to Payplan and am now starting a debt management plan with them. I have 4 payday loans currently and am paying off 2 with my wages tomorrow. 2 of them I can not afford to pay and they are on my DMP with Payplan. Payplan have told me that I am likely to get bombarded with calls and letters from these two companies (Payday-Express.co.uk and Poundstillpayday.co.uk). I am really quite fearful but I cant afford to pay them. I sen them e-mails and a letter with a postal order to Payday Express but have heard nothing back. I make my first payment to Payplan for £228.00 on the 1st November. I don't think they can do too much for me until they recieve my money, although I do have a case officer and have done all the paperwork I need to do for the time being. I am scared I must admit.

Any advice for me please? Jon.

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask/post this so my apologies if its not and please send me in the right direction as i am gettimg a bit worried now.
I have an overdraft and remains of a personal loan with the Royal bank -a few years ago they served me with something to say they were going to take my flat and sell it to pay off the debts - after much pleading I managed to get them to accept £10 a month ( as advised by the CAB) - the debt at that time was £2280 approx. I have been paying at least double that for the last 4 years and then out of the blue last dcember I got a letter to inform me that my payments werent meeting the interest and could I make a lump sum or what more could I pay - the debt at that time (12/07) was over £22,000 - they had been charging daily compound (i think it is) interest - i had asked them to freeze the account and had not realised that they hadnt.
I went to the CAB and the man there did a SOA and sent that to them on my behalf and thats it - thats all thats been done - I have phoned but he says he has not had any word back from them and he doesnt want to chase them up and 'upset' them!!! He had suggested that I took out a DAS for which I neede to have at least 2 debts - fine then but now my second debt is about to be paid off in 2 weeks time.
I havent been able to work for almost 7 years through ill health - I receive all the benefits I am entitled - have recently had a review done - I am currently managing to pay £20 a week to the RB and when I finish my other payments next month that will be another £70 a month to the pot.
What should I do? I dont know my next step - do I go to the royal bank - I am frightened they will say its not enough - I know I could pay it off if they stopped the interest.
thanks for any help you can give.

Hi,when I was first setting up my DMP with cccs I said I had a joint account with my husband and was advised to take my name of the account. I filled in the necessary form in the middle of August and thought that would be that but in fact my bank did not do it and we since found out that because there was an overdraft on it, it had to be authorised by head office. They cancelled all direct debits without our knowledge including all to our priority creditors among others. Then I recieved a letter saying they were accepting the DMP for my two personal accounts and the joint account was also included.
An advisor at cccs told me to write to complain which I did but it crossed in the post with a letter from bank saying that because I had gone onto a DMP all accounts with my name on had to be included.
Since then I've not heard anything and now am wondering whether I should include it, and how it will affect my husband. Not so much concenrned about his credit file but will they start to hassle him for the debt?
Sorry for long post, hope it makes sense.
    Thanks.

    Hi Kudox,

If you want to include your husband on the DMP then you will need to call for a review so that we can include his income and expenditure on the budget.

If he is joint on the account you would both be jointly liable for the debt, so they will chase him as well.
