  • Hi, please can someone advise me what's the best thing to do in light of the postal strikes.
We are due to start our DMP now on the 1st Dec, me missed the 1st Nov one because of postal delays.
Anyway, I am currently sorting out the paperwork to send back to the CCCS and the letters to creditors which explain about the DMP.
I need to send proof of income including benefits. My working families tax credits have just been amended on the phone last Friday due to my new job. I had anticipated it was going to go down and we estimated such when we had our phone appointment.

My problem is that CCCS need proof, I only have proof of the old payment which is not valid anymore. the new figure will be sent in the next 2 weeks but because of the strikes I am anticipating a delay there. The tax credit office told me I can phone on Wednesday 28th to get the new figure over the phone (they say it could be ready by then) so would it be ok to just write that figure so I can get all the paperwork sent off back to the CCCS and teh creditors? Then I can forward the proof on as soon as it reaches me.

Just a bit concerned about having another delay, our creditors are getting a bit impatient. I know there are many others in the same boat which is comforting. Just wondered what to do for the best. I would feel a whole lot better if I can get everything off in the post again before the next wave of strikes begin.

    Thanks ever so much.

Well, Capital One have phoned me yet again at work. I reminded the wee man that they had had the letter from the beginning of September clearly stating that they should only contact me by letter.

So, that's 8, 9, 19, 20, 26 October they have phoned. The wee man stated that it didn't matter that I'd sent the letter in I still needed to speak to them about an urgent matter. Told him, that no I wasn't going to answer his security questions so he'd just need to write to me. Then he said that was may be but Capital One would continue to phone me.

Any advise? I've posted on the main forum incase anyone has had similar.

    Hi there,

Did you get the following letter from us?

    To whom it may concern

    Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to ask that you no longer contact me by telephone as your calls are causing me considerable stress due to the frequency, and that they are being made at inappropriate times. Please remove my telephone number from your database and send all future communication in writing to my home address.

I have provided the most recent copy of my income and expenditure to make you aware of my current financial situation. I will continue to make my payment of x on the x of every month and will keep you informed of any changes in my circumstances as I am keen to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

I understand that following this request if you continue to call I can contact the Office of Fair Trading to make a formal complaint.

Please confirm in writing that your records have been amended.

    Yours sincerely

If you did then you have reason to contact the office of fair trading and make a complaint.

If you did not send this letter then you could forward a copy of this one to them, maybe sending it recorded delivery. If they persist in contacting you at work etc. then you can make a complaint.

    I hope that this helps.

    Regards,
    Amanda

  • Thanks Amanda. It was actually the template letter from the forum I sent to Capital One which is very similar.

I'll contact the Office of Fair Trading.

  • Hi

Santander have finally replied to my letters of July, August and September stating that they won't help as I have not provided relevant proof.

They want me to send my bank statement, details of income, utility bills and details of all other creditors. Can they do this?

If I just ignore this and continue to make my reduced payments, what would happen?

  • I need help with a couple of things. I spoke to CCCS a few months back, and have taken their advice to date. I have managed to pay a few debts off outright with a mixture of some bank charges reclaimed, and also by directing my spare cash to my prioriy debts. I still have some debts left, but things have changed, my income has gone down further (I am self employed), and the debts I have are mainly non priority. The only two priority debts outstanding are this years council tax, which I am 3 months behind with, and last years water bill.
My question is, do I contact CCCS again to revisit these debts?
Also I had a call from a company, I don't know where they got my number from, telling me that there was no choice but to go down the IVA route, which obviously they could set up for me. I told them I was not interested, despite this guys insistance that there was no other option for me. He even put it to me that he was offering me a service (yeah right!), and that mortgage and credit/loan companies are looking back up to 10 years on you credit file, before giving credit. Well I am struggling to pay my debts off, so I'm pretty certain that even a blind man would give me credit right now, not that I want it. I am very concerned that these companies are allowed to operate like this. Are they??
Trying to get out of debt......it's a slow but satisfying road! :j

  • So sorry again........I suddenly went cold and felt all the blood draining from my head and down my body.......we have an overdraft with Abbey, an Abbey loan and Abbey credit card all of which we are hoping they will accept our DMP payments which are being set up at the moment. They have been receiving token payments until now.
The direct debits we usually have coming out of that account are also being moved to a different bank so within a week there will be nothing left there to take from us as my pay/child benefit/tax credits have also been moved.

I suddenly now remembered that my 2 daughters have an account each, a children's account with the Abbey. Is their money safe or should I take that out and move elsewhere too?

And if I move it would I need to take them to the branch with me? The accounts are in their names but my name is there as the trustee I think its called.
My littlest daughter also has her child trust fund money in there, that £250 that every child was given. Should I move this too, can it be moved even?

Just really want to know if their money is safe.....or not because of the mess their mum and dad are in! It adds up to about £1200.

    Many thanks
