I have come into some money from a will and I want to make offers to some of my creditors as a full and final settlement. I'm in a DMP with the CCCS, so have all the necessary letters etc. I would like to know, in your experience, what percentage of the debt to offer as payment, in order to be accepted. I believe it's about 80% - is that right?
Thanks
Hi Peter,
There are no set rules, you could start as low as possible- the worst they can say is no… then offer them slightly more.

hi there. i have just recently approached CCCS and was found to not be able to make anything other than a token payment on a £50000 debt. i have regiged my childcare to save money and now have £360 pcm to offer. i have tried to contact CCCS today, 5 times with no success as i am panicking with all the letters and default notices that i am getting. I originally waited 3 weeks for my proper appt and dont want to lose sleep for another 3 weeks. i would like to know whether i can get the DMP sorted quickly. My solicitors are quite adamant that two of my credit agreements are unenforceable and are about to issue proceedings against two of my creditors. if this is successful how could this effect my DMP ?
Sorry you’re having problems getting through, we are extremely busy at the moment and would recommend you keep trying.

Littlewoods Debt - Urgent Advice Please
Hi, well my mother in law used to run a littlewoods catalogue as an agent, but had to stop due to ill health, anyway she has about 17 customers and owes around 30k in total, the issue is she has had debt letters from several companies and she tells them that its not actually her who owes the money but they are not having any of it and they wont listen and dont care by the sound of it? She has had signed copies from everyone who owes the money acknowledging they owe it. This is making her more ill and when she spoke to Littlewoods they said they had passed it on ? she has ran the catalogue for 15 years, this is ridiculous. She has told the last lot of debt collectors to take her to court and let the judge sort it out because really doesnt owe this.
Please help as she is retired and really doesnt need this grief and worry
Thanks in advance
I had the same problem when i was 18, i`d let my girlfriend get things then we split and she refused to pay. After several letters each way and threats, and visits to citizens advice, the next time they rang my brothers wife got on the phone and shall we say gave it to them with both barrels explaining it wasn`t my debt. After that they backed down and sent a form out to transfer the debt.Maybe they think they can bully people who are more vulnerable, i.e an 18 year old who knows nothing about debts etc.And as you say someone who is retired and doesn`t want the hassle.i`m no expert but i would wager any court would laugh them out off it and rule in your favour.Especially with signed written evidence. The last company to try bully me when they was in wrong i said lets go to court then and they soon backed off.0 -

At the end of august I was forced to go on the sick by my employer, even though its only a certain type of job i cant do.then redundancies came up put my name forward then they canceled them.Though having been in today it looks like they will be back on again by December.Unfortunately for me i have got £180 a month to pay out a month on rent for my half. plus half of every bill £52 gas and electric,tv council tax £88 water £20 and food etc.On top of that i`ve got a mobile phone bill £10 a month but with the cashback i got and money from recycling old one got money to pay that for 1 year of 2.Also got a car which i`ve paid 21/22months off.problem being from what i can see from my statement i received in october £108 pound of it is hire purchase for 60 months.the other £74 covering the negative equity at the time. pound is listed as personal loan which offers no escape, paid 21/22 of 48 payments. Both are paid until 19th November this year then it will be a struggle making the next one.the companies website says they dont offer payment holidays.Been offered a part time job which pays a bit more than sick money only problem is i`ve heard the only way i can take it is to kick the full time job into touch and potentially missing out on £3000 pound redundancy money which would ease if not solve the problem. It isn`t really fair as had i had this job alongside my full time job at the time i was forced onto the sick, i wouldn`t have stoppped doing it has i would`ve been capable of doing it.As far as i know we can`t get benefits as we have no children and my partner works full time though she can only cover so much has she`s only on £7 per hour and the car isn`t her debt to cover.work have told me not to go in until i`ve fully recovered which will be months as i`ve got to wiat a month for mri scan then operation is most likely which would be 3 months recovery from however long i have to wait.0 -

Hi Chrisd8780 and thank you for your message
I would recommend that you call for an appointment to speak to one of our debt counsellors.
The counsellor will put together a budget with you and then discuss the options available to deal with your situation.
To book an appointment with one of our trained counsellors you would need to contact our helpline free on 0800 138 1111. Lines are open Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00. It would be helpful that when you call you have details ready regarding your income, expenditure and creditors, as this can help speed up the referral process. If you have this information ready it may be possible to refer you directly to a counsellor if one is available, otherwise we will arrange a time that is convenient for you to be called back for an appointment.

Hi, first post though long time lover of the site.
My situation: recent graduate with 4 credit cards totalling just under £6000 and two interest freegraduate overdrafts (yes I know!) totalling just under £4000. Recently come into about £6000. I haven't always been the best with my credit cards, in fact recently far from it, always made the payment eventually but not always on time.
Just secured and about to start a potentially lucrative job. I'm going to pay off the credit cards straight away but I know my credit rating could be poor. Should I spend on my credit cards and from now on pay off the full balance every month. How quickly will this improve my credit rating. Is it worth writing and putting a note on my account 'blaiming' the student life or other such excuse for my bad credit card organisation?
Thanks.0 -
Looking for some advice on second jobs - I'm a full time BT employee earning approx 44k a year (31 basic 13OT) but we are in a right mess and I'm thinking of taking some warehouse work shifts at night - pays about £7 per hour .
Does anybody know just how much tax i'll end up paying - will it be worthwhile - i'm just looking to generate a little bit extra a month.0 -
Hi all, i am hoping you kind folk will be able to answer my question...
I set up a DMP with CCS last month and my first payment should be due in a couple of weeks. It will be for £474 a month.
I have just found out that i am pregnant, due in May 2010. Now obvioulsy, my income is going to be reduced significantly from May, with me only having maternity pay. I am hoping to return to full time work within 12 months.
Will i be able to reduce my monthly payment and still carry on with my DMP? I really want to clear the debt, but will no longer be able to afford the amount i am paying now. It will only be on a temporary basis, until i go back to work. I imagine, i will only be able to afford approx £150 a month after all my other outgoings- but i cant confirm this until i have had confirmation from my employer about the amount of maternity pay i will be getting. Can this be arranged?Getting Married Sat Aug 22nd 2009...... so excited!!

My partner & I have an MBNC mastercard, the balance is £7400 and we are trying to clear it but the minimun monthly payment is £200.00 which we are meeting but the debt is not reducing because of the interest. Is there anything we can do without affecting our credit.0
