  • Hi. I am hoping to get some help and information. I have recently returned to the uk after several years living abroad and most recently in New Zealand. I had a loan with Egg before I left the UK £4000. I also had a credit card with a balance of £195 outstanding with Capital One. I had left instruction with a family member ( and also a large some of money) to make sure he was making installments into my uk bank account to ensure I did not miss payments on these debts. I have come to find out he did not do this after saying he had been. Both have these have gone to collection agencies and showing as two defaults on my credit report. I am hoping to apply for a mortgage soon as I am getting married in seven months. Can anyone please advise me the best way to go about dealing with these. They are both with NCO Europe or RMA. I have recently received several letters saying to contact them immediately as this is outstanding a few years now! Is it possible to have someone contact them on my behalf as I cannot at the moment pay a great deal monthly. Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards

    Lee

    Hi Icecube2009

It would be advisable to make only a token payment to your creditors before you start the plan, and that amount would be whatever you can realistically afford. This can even be £1 if that’s all that’s available as you need to prioritise yourself not your creditors, and stopping the use of credit is vitally important if you are trying to become debt free so use the money for your essential living costs first.

For the plan to be set up we need to receive and process all your information to activate your plan so at this time unless we already have your paperwork it is more likely to be May. The start date would be confirmed in the welcome pack you receive once we have all your information.

    Started DMP June 2009

Struggling, debts still mounting due to interest & charges
  • I need some advice on this cos i simply haven't a clue.
Hubby & I got our home repossessed, eviction order is tomorrow, First plus have also managed to get a possession order and have been granted it - i don't under how, anyway the court paperwork came through last week stating firstplus had been granted the possession order and also a money order??? Today i get a letter from a company stating they could help us as we have a CCJ, obviously from First plus as its the same amount owed. We didn't know anything about the CCJ until this letter - we had offered firstplus an amount every month but haven't heard anything - i really don't know how to proceed with this. Any help grateful received.

Hi, I have a DMP with CCCS, it is is my name and all the debts are mine. I have included my OH current wages in the plan. Question... if my OH gets another job at increased wages does that have to be included seeing as the debts do not belong to him. thanks .....

Hi all, Basically we have 60k of debts not including mortgage. 30k+ is on credit cards and loans, the remainder being HP and overdrafts. My wife works full time and I am self employed. I haven't had much work come in recently and we cannot now service those debts. I was advised by a friend to re-mortgage and so have applied for one, albeit expensive, 7.9% as I had to self certify my income due the present problems. This re-mortgage was to be used to pay off credit cards and loans, saving us around £400 a month, but after reading Martins website I am very nervous about turning unsecured debt into secured, especially as since the time we applied, work has almost completely dried up for me. It looks as though they are going to send the mortgage offer out in the next week or so but I can't get an appointment with CCCS until May 6th due to high demand, (understandably so for this excellent free service) for some advice. I don't want to sound ungrateful but I do not want to put my house at any more risk than absolutely neccesary, and would rather go into DMP with the CCCS and let the banks and credit cards take the pressure, than re-mortgage and lose the house. I hope someone out there can give me advice, any at all would be welcome. Cheers.
    Hi debtmagnet,

We seldom recommend changing your unsecured personal lending into a secured debt. If you secure your debts and then have a change in circumstances then you could put yourself at risk to lose your home. It really would be best for you to have an appointment to see if there are better options for you before you sign anything.

You could try ringing our appointments team to see if there have been any cancellations or any more self employed appointments come available. You may have to be flexible with time and possibly take an hour off work for the appointment. I will send you the appointments number on a Private Message.

    Regards,
    Amanda

After umming and ahhing I have decided to try and get my DMP up and running just for 12 months as by the end of this time period I will be in a much better position - is this a feasible option and is it worth speaking to the people I owe money to myself in the short term or should I just send out my token payment - which I intend to do tomorrow and leave it to the CCCS?

    Thanks, Lou :)
    Hi lou,

I am assuming that you have already had an appointment and the counsellor has offered you a DMP. If you want to start a DMP there is no ‘contract’ so you can stop at any time that suits you and your situation. However, if you stop paying on a DMP you will be in arrears with your debts and will need to be able to make alternate arrangements with them.

    I hope this helps.

    Amanda

sorry dont know if this is posted in right place, but i have a question.
I currently have an arrangement with CAB to pay my creditors £1 per month.
One of these creditors is Natwest(regarding overdraft)
I still have an account with them as I have a personal loan with them.
Money is going into the account each month because the loan insurance is paying into the account.I dont use the account for anything else.Do i still have to post a £1 postal order to the bank each month(costing £1 for recorded delivery) or can i just go into the bank and pay £1 into the account?

Hi I am not sure if this is the right place to post this question so i apologise if it isn't.
I'd like to get a copy of my credit file from equifax but wondered, when i apply for it does that automatically tell any people that i owe money to where i live?

    Hi dawnie1972,

It does not notify your creditors, as such but the credit reference agency would update your address details. If your creditors then checked your credit file they would know your address.

I have attached a link that will give you some useful information on credit files and the information they hold.

    Hi

Quick question - I have received my letter from CCCS asking for statements etc and am getting this together at the moment and hope to send it back to you this week.

CCCS have enclosed a letter for me to photocopy and send to my creditors with a box to insert the start date. When would this actually be - 1st May or 1st June. Would 1st May be enough time for CCCS to contact all my creditors? Can I chose for it to be 1st June to save a bit of money first?

    Thanks
    WoS

    Hi Worriedofsurrey,

We are processing DMP’s at the moment with a May 1st start. This would mean that your creditors will receive the money at the end of May.

If you want to start on the 1st June then you really need to make a payment to your creditors in May even if it is just a token payment. It is a long time for them to wait for money; the money you pay to us on the 1st June will not reach them until the end of June.

    Regards,
    Amanda

  • Do I have to forward my monthly statements and letters regarding creditors taking further action/DCA letters to you? I have a pile that has come in the last week, 3 of which have informed me they are taking further action like DCA, Defaults etc, and another 2 HAVE moved the debts to the DCA. I have written a letter and enclosed these 2 to send to yourselves because of the change in information etc..but should I be sending everything that comes in the post?

    Many Thanks as always.

    Vicky
