Hi,
Over the last couple of years, after realizing my credit file was a mess, I decided to sign up to Equifax and keep tabs on my file in a bid to improve my apparently poor score.
The reason my score was originally in the red was due to a disagreemet I had with Orange phone network and not then shortly after defaulting (£200) on a Capital One credit card, but nonetheless settled accounts.
I'm embarassed just writing about my pathetic and ill understanding of how, at the time, this would totally trash my credit score.
Anyway, fast forward four years. I have two credit cards accounts (not good I know, but they've helped improve my credit score), a mobile phone account, a broadband account, and a bank balance which hasn't incurred any charges in as long as I can remember (hooray for me, I know).
But yet on recent veiwing my credit score seems to be in worse shape then ever. As I say, i've kept everyting tip top since my younger days.
I then noticed on closer inspection, my old (defaulted) Capital One account had replaced my newer, well kept Capital One account, I was slightly miffed let me tell you. And then not the other day, my Broadband account which has also helped improve my score, totally disappears.
And my score is now back in the red.
I'm fed up to be honest, i'm paying good money to see my account when i'm notified of big changes via Equifax (such as accounts added or removed) and keep all my creditors happy with up to date payments.
I'm not expecting to see my credit score improve drastically overnight, but the effort and budgeting i've indugled over the last few years should return some improvement?
I'd just like to ask, what the bloomin 'eck i'm doing wrong?
Thankyou in advance
Majetsic.

I'd suggest you book an appointment in order for us to discuss your options. Without seeing your budget it's hard to say whether £150 would be affordable for you to offer the creditors on a repayment plan. It might benefit you to book an appointment once you've had confirmation of what you are going to be earning once your working, if you are confident in getting back into work soon. Alternatively we can provide advice based on how things are at the moment, and then reassess the situation when your income changes.
You can try using Debt Remedy. Debt Remedy would assist you in completing a financial statement and you would be provided with tailored advice on the best way to deal with your situation. Click here to go directly to Debt Remedy.

Hello
We are about to start our DMP with you in April. My contractual payments to MBNA are £25, yet I have been informed that CCCS have changed this figure to 3% of the balance-one card now has a contractual payment of £145. I will now be paying £12 more to the CC than what I was ever asked to pay pre DMP and will be giving MBNA MORE money on a balance of £4800 than my NR loan with a balance of £10k. I seem to be getting mixed info when I ring CCCS, can you please clarify one way or the other.
Many thanks

Hi I have received my CCCS notification of DMP and CCCS financial statement back from Aquq (one of our creditors) along with a compliment slip, stating they want proof of income. I am self employed and earn about £100 a month profit and so only have books and my husbands most recent wage slips are with yourselves at CCCS. How should we go about this? My husband is due to be paid on Wednesday, but as he has done overtime this will show on his wage slip, so I am worried they may see him earning more than what is down on the SOA recently sent to the, and then demand more money.
Please help, what should we do?0 -

Its ok I have contacted Aqua and they have informed me they have already received correspondence from CCCS and have accepted the £5 per month for 12 months. My only concern is that they expect the 1st payment by the 5th/6th April, when we will only be paying CCCS on the 1st which I believe wont be distributed until the 25th.0 -
Can you tell me please how long it takes to set up a DMP, I am currently gathering together all information eeded to fill out the on line form, but wondered if I should still continue to pay my creditors, I have a Credit card payment (£200) due at end of month & another at beginning of april (£125) which will basically clear me out & mean I will have to use the card again for food etc. not sure what to do?Light Bulb Moment feb 2009

Hi all, Basically we have 60k of debts not including mortgage. 30k+ is on credit cards and loans, the remainder being HP and overdrafts. My wife works full time and I am self employed. I haven't had much work come in recently and we cannot now service those debts. I was advised by a friend to re-mortgage and so have applied for one, albeit expensive, 7.9% as I had to self certify my income due the present problems. This re-mortgage was to be used to pay off credit cards and loans, saving us around £400 a month, but after reading Martins website I am very nervous about turning unsecured debt into secured, especially as since the time we applied, work has almost completely dried up for me. It looks as though they are going to send the mortgage offer out in the next week or so but I can't get an appointment with CCCS until May 6th due to high demand, (understandably so for this excellent free service) for some advice. I don't want to sound ungrateful but I do not want to put my house at any more risk than absolutely neccesary, and would rather go into DMP with the CCCS and let the banks and credit cards take the pressure, than re-mortgage and lose the house. I hope someone out there can give me advice, any at all would be welcome. Cheers.0
