Just signed for an Amazon 2 weeks free trial, 6 dvds per month. I like it that the rental list shows you availability as "now" "a shot wait" or " a long wait". At least, I know what's going on.Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0 -

I used Blockbuster's free trial recently. I got three films immediately from my list. I watched them all and posted them back 4 days before my trial period finished. They emailed back to confirm receipt and haven't billed me.
No complaints. Three films crossed off my 'Not yet seen' list.
[edit]Should have said but didn't, I cancelled my membership the day I sent them back.[/edit]"Peter Pan is 2. Shirley Bassey is 3. Dr Ian Paisley is 4. King Lear is 5. Why?"
"...also known as taking in the Spanish Cub Scout leader. (Cryptic) (5)"
Thanks to MSE, I've seen Citizen Kane, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Serenity for FREE!0 -
I am with Blockbuster and I would recommend them wholeheartedly.
I always receive my films very quickly and they process new rentals on the day that they receive the old ones back.
I tried out one of the free trials with lovefilm and I was shocked at their turnaround rates so I cancelled the trial because I didn't want to waste my time.
Blockbuster is the way to go!!I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me saying "You're next". They stopped when I started doing it to them at funerals0 -
My experience with Tesco is similar to charlieboycat.. used to be very quick turnaround, but since Lovefilm has been appearing on the return envelope I seem to be getting one disc per week, even if I send the old one back the day of receipt.
Current example - disc acknowledged returned to Tesco/Lovefilm Monday - now Thursday, no sign of replacement, no email notifying despatch.
That's with a list of over 40 titles in queue.
Not recommended now.0 -
Just wanted to add my winge about lovefilm. On the 2 dvd deal, been with just 1 dvd for 10 days now, the other hasnt been allocated yet. contacted customer services, who havent done anything to fix the problem from what I can see. Agree with everyone else, get the cashback and scarperNo longer an accidental landlord, still a wannabe millionaire:beer:

I am with Lovefilm and sent them an email today. I got same-day turnaround on first couple of films but now they have had my last film back for 3-4 days and despite having enough films on my list, I have heard nothing.
Luckily I am still within my free period but I guess they have overloaded themselves buying Screenselect and now just can't cope.
What was it my mum used to say "Eyes bigger than yuor belly" LOL Maybe these companies should put enough staff in place before they go acquiring other companies...I can see me cancelling shortly. Think I might give Blockbuster online a try.
Maybe online rental is not the great idea it should be. How hard is it to walk to the local video shop. Support local business!0 -
Yes, but my local Choices shop prices - chart dvds especially - are shocking.
Some dvds I could buy online for the rental price or less.0 -
this is such a shame that love film took over screenselect as they were really good where as love film will lose customers ten fold with there attitude. Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0

I took out a free one month trial with Lovefilm via CDWOW Rentals as CDWOW also sent me an e-voucher for £8.75 which I still need to use at some point! During the free month which started the beginning of September 2006, the turnaround was really good. However, the last two weeks have been appalling. Also the other week their system was down due to an upgrade. This took longer than the website said it would. I do not think that they did everything they wanted to do during the maintenance period, as on the rental page they have a new key with icons for the wait you are likely to have for a title but they are not shown next to the items in the rental list.
I have had about 5 damaged discs that were badly scratched causing the picture to break up and the sound to stop. Sometimes this occurred in only one place on a disc and other discs this occurred on several occasions. The length of the break ups varied- basically depended on the condition of the disc. In all cases even if you feel that it was only a small jump, I recommend ticking the box to state that the disc is damaged on the return envelope and notifying them online. That way they cannot blame you if the disc is sent to another user who notifies them that the disc does not play properly. Also it will help to limit the number of damaged discs still in circulation.
I have informed them via the help facility that there is a delay with me receiving discs and after doing so a web page showed that they acknowledge that there has been a problem with despatches on my account. Currently I am waiting for them to email me. With a bit of luck they will offer me some free days; otherwise I think I may try another rental scheme.
I am on a 3 disc unlimited subscription but have only been getting 1 disc at a time for the last two weeks even though my list contains over 40 titles and they have received back the other 2 allocation discs.0
