Economy saved by spreading joy :!0 -
that just in aberdeen too?

funny my leccy, gas and diesel bills are not reflecting this?
Gas and Electric are soon to be on their way down, diesel costs have already been slashed by around 22ppl from peak. Where have you been living since August
That's about an extra £11-12 saving every tank fill up for most cars. I fill my car about 5 times per month, partner about twice a month so thats saved us as a couple around £75pm alone in fuel costs.
Then there's the associated food costs. Prices are being slashed on everything due to the now lower transport costs. I stocked up on some smirnoff for xmas last night. £12 down to £8:D
So yes there are signs of a slow recovery already.
Then there's the bank interest rate cuts down to 4.5%.
Actually i was in Newcastle last weekend, and Manchester the weekend before that. Both weekends were choc a bloc with people spending.
If you are buying a car at the moment, again there are very good deals to be had.
Unemployment figures are going up and people are being made redundant all over the UK but yet the media fail to mention the 1.5m advertised jobs available.
We talk ourselves into this nonsense, media just spirals it out of control. Anyone that cant see that, obviously has the blinkers on.0 -
This Recession word strikes fear into people, but if you step back and consider it essentially means growth is checked for a while, it can be viewed as less threatening language.
So the economy stops growing, or shrinks a bit for a while.
The bigger picture is one of hoardes of nations clamouring for development. All that development needs expertise and goods from places like Britain.
Its so easy to get carried away with the idea everything is collapsing, but in the end Humans just get on with thier endeavours and steadily but surely trade is done.
Indeed you might well argue the heaving of the stock market bodes well for property as average Joes would rather own a pile opf bricks they can let rather than a bunch of share certificates over which they have zero influence.0 -
Christmas is coming and I shall be buying really useful and relevant presents. I'll be buying nice food but not stupid amounts of it - so we will really enjoy our meal but not put on stupid amounts of weight eating carp or overbought delicacies.
Interest rates are supposed to fall and I am on a tracker.
I can afford to fill my car to visit relatives over the christmas period.0 -

The herd agrees with you, which is why I'm tending to think the opposite.
Buy in the gloom, dont wait for 'certain' signs of recovery as you will find instead of being a buyer alone, you will be one amongst others so there will be no need for vendors to 'take a hit'.
If you prefer, just follow the herd
There's no 'gloom.' You are suffering from premature capitulation, my friend. You need more staying power. The gloom will be along shortly, but meanwhile, please think of kippers and try not to get quite so excited. I will see what my mate Mervyn has for your condition......
...Uh,oh... hang on.....Damn! Mervyn has just dumped his stash of 'R' right in front of the media. I guess it's back to the kippers then....or maybe you should just go out and get three more BTLs. What the hell - it's only money!0 -
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Furniture sales could continue if the TV ads are anything to go by.
You can still buy new sofas and have completely trashed them months before you need to pay a penny
Will we ever learn?0 -
