    Hi Val_84

Just wondering how many cravats you are making out of the 4 meters im undecieded on how much material i need? Out of interest where did you get a pattern from to make the cravats?
My mum is going to be making them for me as i am useless at sewing!!

This ebay seller who sells cravat patterns was mentioned earlier in the thread .. they say half a meter will make three ties.

1 cravat will take approx 1.2m. Slipper satin is lovely for cravats.

    http://www.cheapfabrics.co.uk/thestore/product_info.php/cPath/87_93_878/products_id/2417?osCsid=crkchfeknd43p577pha6dsv3r6 it's £3.99m. (P&P is about £3.00 I think depending on the weight)

You can get it alot cheaper than this. Local market stalls and such.

http://www.fabricland.co.uk/ do a lightweight chinese satin at £1.35m plus p&p.

http://img.sewingtoday.com/cat/20000/itm_img/V7104.jpg is the vogue pattern for an Ascot tie.

    Hope this helps.

1/2 a metre!!!! Ties have to be cut on the bias so 1/2 a meterewon't be enough for one tie. Get them to check their resourses!!

Ah, pre tied, but 1/2 a m will defo not make 3 ties unless the fabric has a super wide width. Most are 112/114 or 150cm width. (not directed at you in any way Kelda.)

    Hi lauranurse,
I got 4 meters to make 4 cravats with, My mum said all she needs is a cravat and she will make a template and do it that way....No idea how. So I have borrowed one of my OHs grandad and she is going to trace around it and use that.
Dont think I will need 4meters but thought better to be safe than sorry

    Linda:

I am considering buying extra material to make chiffon bolero jacket thingies as one of my BM's has a skin problem, and she's wary of her back being 'naked' and on show.. so she wanted some sort of covering so thinking chiffon jackets as dresses will be chiffon - how much material would I need for a wee jacket do you think?

Should i ask what width the material is? Store of Dress are quoting me $20 per metre (that includes P&P)

That should be plenty but if the fabric is quite cheap and this is a first time sew then always add an extra meter. Experience will have you squeezing the pattern pieces on the material. Many patterns say for example 2.70m of fabric for a dress. You can squeeze the smaller bodice pieces on the excess of the skirt pieces. (sorry if this is getting technical)
However, for saftey add at least an extra meter. Think of the condom theory. Best to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!!
