    Linda:

I am considering buying extra material to make chiffon bolero jacket thingies as one of my BM's has a skin problem, and she's wary of her back being 'naked' and on show.. so she wanted some sort of covering so thinking chiffon jackets as dresses will be chiffon - how much material would I need for a wee jacket do you think?

Should i ask what width the material is? Store of Dress are quoting me $20 per metre (that includes P&P)

    Basic bolero style jacket.

    SIZE (6 8 10) 1.6m (12 14 16) 1.9m (18 20 22) 2.2m for fabric 114/115cm width which most chiffons width come in.
    SIZE ( 6 8 10) 1.2m (12 14 16) 1.5m (18 20 22) 1.6m for a fabric width of 150cm

    Hope this helps.

Back to edit, $20!!! Is that for silk??? Chiffon can be picked up for as little as £2.99 a meter!!

http://www.hillsidetextiles.co.uk/hillsidecgi-bin/hillsidesearch.pl?C=HILLSIDE&P=SEARCH&COLOUR=All&FABRIC=CHIFFON%20112cm have it from £1.70m plus VAT and P&P. Good choice of colours too and they are always happy to send free samples as are many of my suppliers.

I *think* its for chiffon, but I did think that was bit high, I can always barter with that!!

We were thinking maybe this style which seems a little more complicated & may use more material?

Styles are standard, yes. Crinkle chiffon may take more fabric requirements because it has a nap (1 way design ie, the crinkle) However, I still think the price is excessive as I can get pure silk crinkle chiffon for £4.65m. Ivory only however. The down side is it's hard to get. Out of all my suppliers only the 1 i've mentioned does crinkle. They do have a dying option but it would work out quite expensive as they only dye a minimum of 8m.

It could also be georgette which has a lot more body than chiffon. Chiffon is far more floaty whereas georgette is more drapy.

So the John lewis one wont need much more material than the material you wouted earlier.. It looks like it has a few layers in places.

PS - If you lived near me I'd totally get you to alter the dresses and make my wee boleros but you live too far away. I really appreciate yur advice Linda!

Looking at it again it will have a facing at the front and it also looks like it has a half back lining. (A bit strange that it only comes up half way up the back.) If I were to make it I would buy crinkle fabric for the main and then line it with a plain chiffon. (Line the whole thing. The pattern will also alow for facings if it requires one) The fabric in this particular jacket is silk but I am having trouble seeing it is a crinkle chiffon. Looks plain to me.

Has anyone ordered a dress from landy without having bought the colour swatch chart and have been happy with the colour choice?

I want to sort my bridesmaids out soon and the colour scheme is soft blue possible aqua/tifanny blue. I have had a look on the colour chart but its so difficult to tell and i cant really afford the chart(cant afford for the colour to be wrong either lol). I just wanted to know for those that had purchased dresses were the colours what you thought they were?

I have got the colour chart as I was after a baby blue dress for my bridesmaids and number 60 is probably the closest.

    Hi lucylouwoo

60's lovely, I love 41 also. I'm having 43 for my BM's orginally I was against pink (my future step-daughter desp wanted pink lol) but I love the shade of pink that 43 is.

Hi everyone, well my dress arrived today and.....................
Its gorgeous!! I love it. It is a little tight, but I gave smaller measurements because I am on a healthy eating plan now, and It will fit perfectly by august.
The bodice is beautiful, with lovely beading and fits my bust nicely.
I am soooooo pleased I went with Landy.
And the bonus..... i didn't have to pay import tax:)
