can anyone tell me, if you ordered through landy,
was it best to do it via ebay? (with the illusion of preotection, returns, paypal refunds if something goes wrong etc)
    or direct through the website?

im about to order and im so nervous :(

I ordered mine through ebay, just for the added protection:) hth
  • I bought mine on Ebay, however the dress I wanted they didn't have on there so did all my communicating with them, sending pics etc via website/email and then when I was ready to buy they listed it on ebay for me no problem. I also got them to send me photos of it when it was done (and before shipping) so any obvious issues there might have been could be fixed before they sent it out.

There weren't any problems so was all good:j

I think because of the time it takes to make and get your dress the protection date has passed (can't remember think it's 40 something day's) so by the time you'r dress does get here it's too late to open a dispute, this may have changed though. I got my dress from Milly, I was happyish, but wouldn't recommend them. Do give it plenty of time & good luck.
    Booo!!!
  • I am interesting to order from landybridal, what you think about there dresses, good quality or not, please advice me...thank you
  • I am hoping this is ok to say here, i've not heard great reviews about Landy Bridal if things go wrong. If everything goes ok then they seem an absolute bargain and if you have the cash to spare taking the risk then a good idea. However, I know of two personal friends that have had hell with them in terms or ordering from the website and then poor work turning up but never getting a refund.

For that first reason, I would only order from their ebay listings as you at least have better protection and I would only ever pay them via paypal.

The second reason I dislike them is that I am a mod on a small wedding forum and they repeatedly join under different usernames and spam the site pretending to be brides and going on about how wonderful they are. It's easy to spot them from the IP addresses, email addresses and usually pretty poor command of language. It irks me greatly that they seem to think this is a professional way to conduct business and I suspect that they google their own name and then spam everything that comes up to keep them in the search engines.

My advice would be - the lure of a cheap dress is tempting but there are many ways and places to get other cheap dresses here in the UK. Wedding fairs usually have people selling off dresses cheap from display stock, wedding shops have sales usually at the start and end of each season (especially Feb), you can try on a dress in a shop then search it on ebay (that's how I found mine). If you are prepared to take the risk, be safe with your money, pay via paypal from a very specific invoice that details exactly what you expect to get, don't pay via a debit card as you have less protection and be sure to check everything from fabric and measurements to the colour and exact detailing you expect to get.

For some, the risk isn't that big, for others £100 odd quid off their overall budget is a big deal and a lot of stress. I looked for ages at some of the dresses you can get shipped over cheaply. It's so tempting but on something so important I just wasn't brave enough to take the risk in the end.

Other tips for getting a cheap dress:

Note the design you like, try it on and look on the net or call the manufacturer for a list of all stockists, call round and see who sells it the cheapest. Whena dress shop hasn't got to fuss with you trying everything on in the shop, they are often happy to make a quick, easy sale. If you can, wait until the end of the season as they will be happier to make a reduction, even more so if you buy other items from them. Buy the dress get the veil free?

Look around on some of the big magazine forums, often brides with big budgets change their mind and you can get dresses advertised on them that are brand new but the bride simply wanted a different colour.

Check out charity bridal stores. Some, the British Heart Foundation I think is one, have specific wedding shops with some absolute bargains, again, often donated from the designers and new. Worth a look at least and helping good causes whilst you're at it.
  • ..should have visited more often. i, too, expect some new pictures of your dresses
  • I thought I'd post on this thread since I've been lurking for about a month and a half, reading loads of old posts about Landy.

I stumbled on their asapbay auctions on eBay, and found a few buyers who posted reviews. I contacted them and they emailed back saying they really did have excellent transactions and gave me tips for measuring, etc.

I'm not rolling in the dough by any means, but I thought if I could save money by getting a dress from Landy, I'd be doing well. I'm so excited about my wedding, but for some reason have been laid back enough to feel like if this doesn't work out, it won't be the end of the world. I think you have to go into anything like this, where you're buying blind, with that kind of attitude. If you can't, then I wouldn't advise it.

That said, my stomach HAS been in knots off and on, but from the get-go, their communication has been top notch. I've been receiving all my emails from a woman named Nancy, and she replies within minutes, and when she doesn't it's due to the time difference I think. They've been very accommodating and when I asked for a dress whose auction ended, she relisted it within a day at a very similar price (still about £100 I think, plus shipping). Part of me is okay with trying this experiment out because the dress is gorgeous, but I've never had my heart *set* on one specific design. Somehow, that makes this a bit easier ;)

I paid and unfortunately, realised right after paying and giving my measurements that it was the start of the Chinese New Year, so Nancy apologised profusely but said they would start the dress after the 10 days were over. So I've waited a bit longer than most I think, but it was only shipped out yesterday from China, and arrived at Heathrow this evening. Although I'm in Bristol, and after being sorted at Heathrow, I thought it would come here tomorrow - instead I see DHL's sent it on its merry way to East Midlands. For whatever reason.

Anyhow, as requested, Nancy sent me 4 photos of the dress before the packaged and shipped it, and I have to say, I'm surprised at how much it looks like the original. I'm happy to post photos if I can on here, when the dress arrives. It's hard to tell what the material is like from the photos, but there is a full length shot of both front and back, and a closer shot of the torso, front and back. The one difference I can see is there's a big sort of flower decoration on the right hip of the original dress, and while I didn't mind it, I wasn't wild about it but I didn't mention this to them. They made the flower much smaller, and it looks fantastic. They did, however, make the train smaller as I requested. Okay, not as small as I requested (I pointed to another of their dresses and requested that train instead, and Nancy said no problem... I'd say the train I'm getting is halfway between the two. Without being specific to them on length, I can't really complain). I want to be able to dance in it so I'll probably see how much it will cost to have it altered, if I care that much when it arrives.

All this to say, I've yet to receive it and try it on, but I took a chance and the communication has been rapid, friendly, and reassuring. I was wary but when I opened the photos yesterday morning, so, so relieved as it looks nearly identical to the photos they had on eBay.

When it arrives, I'll try to post photos (only just joined, so not sure how this works yet). Just wanted to throw my $.02 in because I know how difficult it can be to make this decision, since I went looking for others' input before I did.

I would say, if you haven't completely set your heart on a very specific dress/material, and you're willing to give it a shot, go for it knowing that some people have had good experiences (like myself, thus far), and some, awful. I'd love to know why it varies so much, but in any case, I'm surprised I went this route given what a worry-wart I can be ;)

Thanks for everyone who has posted in here, as it's been helpful to weigh the pros and cons of this kind of decision.
