I have a bit of a dliema - I have tried on a dress that I love but isn't on the Landy website, I have sent an email with a picture attached, asking if they could make it and they said that they can, but it would be slightly different.... I can't afford the dress from the bridal shop as it was £895
Do I go with it being slightly different - and not be sure what I'm getting, or just get something from them that I can see a picture of and know they have made before - and know exactly what I'm getting? Please help me someone - I am confused with all this wedding dress shopping and don't like it anymore

Hi all Brides to Be!! It has taken me a week to analyse every post on this thread and get the most information out of all your "reports" and pictures!! They ALL look fab by the way!
This thread persuaded me to join, and I just have a few last questions before the crunch when I buy next week! I am going for the Maggie Sottero "Dion" dress, think it is last season, but I love it so it doesnt matter. When I go and get measured is the "nipple to nipple" length with or without bra? I am assuming with? I just have big ones lol.
Also, do you think I can ask for stronger boning? Has anyone asked already? I just want to hide my tummy, but dont want things to get lost in translation!!
Lastly, if a dress in the shop has netting underneath it to puff it out a bit, will Landy incorporate that? If not no hardship I suppolse with a hoop I will be buying anyway (is it best to buy one from Landy or elsewhere?).
THAT IS IT lol. I will be getting measured this week I hope and then we are ordering!! If it all goes wrong me and my mum have decided to go halves and I have already found "the one" number 2 lol.
I cant wait to participate in this thread, it is just soooooo exciting!!!
Oh and inaspin I am getting married the day after you ha ha on the Sunday!!!!!
Thanks for any replies

Ask them what they mean by "slightly different" and see what they say. All Landy dresses have to be slightly different because of copyright laws so they can't do an exact copy of any designer dress.0 -

Cinese don't worry about the copyright laws so I'm led to believe. What does leave me wondering is slightly different? They sell you an image of a dress but make it slightly different. So, are you or are you not getting the image you requested? You defo need to find out what differences are being made. These could be fabric, seam allowances as in uk laws there needs to be 7 changes to avoid copyright.0 -
Don't take this the wrong way, be if you are worried about "slightly different" then landy is probably not for you.
I haven't ordered yet but have read this entire thread and followed many girls that have gone down this route, expect it to be a pretty stressfull process
I, like most on here worry about
Will it turn up?
Will it be fit to wear?
Will I fit in it (allowing for some alterations, obv)
These are much bigger things to worry about - detail I am not bothered about
If you want exactly the same dress you are far better off spending the money in the shops , ordering the dress direct from the US if poss or buying a genuine dress second hand rather than the landy route, if only for your own sanityHad a thrifty wedding 17-06-10

Will it turn up? Not just Landy. This can happen to anything. With the current eco climate, there are many companies going bust and leaving customers high and dry. You have to be on your guard about anything.
Will it be fit to wear? I think many ladies here have been over the moon with their stuff. I have dealt with some (not necessarily here) who have "appeard" to be happy, but have said in confidence to me that there are things wrong. Again, this can happen anywhere. As for fabrics, I know my qualities and I personally wouldn't sell a customer anything less than she deserved. I have the attitude that I would wear it. I have scruples. Now, I'm not saying theirs is bad, just some are different quality and without being patronising at all, unless you know about fabric, you aint really gonna know the difference. Silk is silk and there is no substitute (apart from weight in the crepe satins). Taffeta however, has a wide scale ranging from thin lining types to thick, crunchy, russtly types.
Will it fit? Again, this is down to the client and how they measure themselves. It has to be right which is why it is always best to get a professional or someone you don't know or who is honest to do it. It is far to easy to pull the tape measure a little snug because you actually think you are a 36" bust rather than the 36.9" that you really are. Those .9" are a BIG difference especially if you do this for your whole body. Vanity measurements just don't work when you have something made to measure from distance.0 -

LOL I hadn't even thought of that! I would be sucking it in standing in a position that makes me thinnest ha ha. Luckily I have found someone local to me and she is only charging a tenner to get measured, am nervous and excited at the same time, and that's BEFORE I even order the dress!!!
Svjenni - thanks for your kind words! I am getting a copy of Maggie Sottero "Dion" Milly do it, but I feel more comfortable with Landy, but there is a link of a Milly made one here:

/ product_info.php?cPath=2&products_id=77
Does that link work if you put it together? If not its code WG0406 on that site.
I am SOOOO EXCITED!!! Also without even knowing I tried a dress on and loved it, to look back at the pic of me in it and find it is more or less the same one I am ordering! When are you getting married? And did you go for a Landy?

I had a client whom did this. She decided to come to see me and pick the dress up. She tried it on and was sucking everything in!!! I would have liked to have let it out about 1cm (not much just to enable her to breathe!) but she insisted it was perfect and wanted to take it away. Following week she called to say she was stuck in it!!
It is CRITICAL the measurements are correct. For the seamstress, we cannot see which bits you are sucking in! This also goes for underwear!! First fittings should ALWAYS be with the underwear you intend wearing on the day. If not, and the dress needs to be altered further because your shape is different, expect to be charged!0 -
LOL Linda - please dont tell me she had to be cut out of it or the fire brigade come and rescue her! As I went through this thread over the last fortnight I have seen you have very generously offered advice. Can I ask a question? All it is the lady measuring me has said to wear the underwear I will be wearing with the dress. Now hopefully I wont need a bra as it will hold me in, but if I do will it be a nightmare? Because I will order it after measuring I dont know if I will need one or not.
I shall make her aware I may need to wear a corset, so ask her to leave some space for that? Thanks for your help
