DLA isbt awarded for a diagnosis, so any condition that someone has is almost irrelevant. it is awarded for care and mobility needs and that is what you need to focus on and not what your condition is called. ( i do know how hard fobro can be as my mum suffers with it)0

thanks!!! but how are they supposed to live if they are not entitled to some sort of benefit, there is no way he is fit to work,0

If he is unfit for work he can apply for ESA (Employment and Support allowance) and look into PIP (Personal Independence payment) if he has care or mobility needs.0

- by '"disabled" I assume you mean money as in a DLA payment
- DLA is paid to help with mobility and care needs
- cancer is a medical condition, an illness, not a disability
- and can range from no care and mobility needs at all to totally dependant
If he is now not working he should register as unemployed at a job centre as soon as possible and take it from there. At that point the process will start and he will discover what financial and other state support is available to him.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Due to a work related accident in 2000, i am now disabled & its amazing the amount of people who seem surprised when im parked in a disabled parking bay.
Just because i dont look disabled, doesnt mean im faking it.
Thanks to the forums on the web, i have gained a lot of useful information.
I see people who state they are disabled and have had accident park in the disabled parking bay walk into the shops and come back carrying bags of shopping and they will state they have mental health issues, yes but actually disabled parking bays are for people with mobility problem the extra room is to get into a wheelchair or use of crutches.
If your disabled and haqve little or not mobility problem then walking a few yards further will not hurt one.
I see people who have had new knees and hips state yes they are better now but still have a disability.
I'm in a wheelchair and the times I have had to park or in fact go home because I could not park, then I watch people who come out of a car and walk off without even using a walking aid, just because they are sixty.0 -
Suzy36, your brother may be entitled to some disability benefits depending on what effect the leukaemia has on your brother. If for instance he suffers chronic fatigue, breathlessness, physical weakness etc then his condition is causing him a degree of disability. It is all decided on an individual basis.

It angers me you think because people don't need a walking aid they should not be using disabled spaces, what a load of mince. Not all disabilities are visible , and it's nobodys business why they are in a disabled space, if they have been awarded a disabled badge, they are entitles to use it it. Are you going to tell someone who can hardly breath or has to use oxygen to get around that they are not entitled to use a space because they don't 'look' disabled:mad:
Oh, and by the way, I use two crutches, occasionally a wheelchair or mobility scooter but I would never judge anyone else who used a badge.0
