Lapland New Forest Scam. How to get money back...

  • That's fantastic news kattwood and it's a shame we can't name and congratulate the company involved, but maybe they'd be concerned that it would only result in a torrent of claims for them.

kattwood's example does highlight that there is wriggle space between what cc companies and banks' are legally obliged to do and what they can do, when it is clear that the customer has unfairly suffered a loss. That's why I would urge all those who have suffered a loss and don't see any way to reclaim their money, to 'stay tuned'.

Do the same as kattwood, or await developments.

To codger. The Financial Ombudsman Sevice is the complaints arm of the FSA, and the FSA has a wider responsibility in regulating and protecting (this last responsibility can be where problems lie), so I don't see a problem about me not having suffered any loss personally. That's why I'm using the FSA and not the FOS.

To be blunt. If they don't listen, my next port of call is SOCA, and anyone pushing me away and causing me to go there is definitely not acting in the best interests of the financial services industry.

In the trade it's known as 'making an offer they can't refuse'. I'll judge the sincerity of the person I speak to and ask for them to provide some way knowing the matter is being looked into, or I'll go to SOCA anyway.

Whenever you suspect you may be fobbed off it's handy to have an alternative strategy up your sleeve.
  • SURPRISE SURPRISE!!!!

The recorded delivery letter that we sent to LAPLAND NEWFOREST -Registered Business address (LAPLAND NElWFOREST LTD Unit 1 Wild Park House Home Farm Rd Brighton BN1 9HT) to politely ask for our money back as advised by consumer direct, has been returned to us today and the reason given "REFUSED"

Has any one else had there letter returned?? Any advice??

Will call consumer direct later on as have to go out for a bit.
  • You have done what you were required to do willgilesnov04

Refusng your mail doesn't make your position any worse. You've fulfilled the requirement and can now go on to the next step.

That action is both childish and pointless, and also points to the fact that there never was any intention to run a proper company. It was a sham. They made the least effort to pretend to be running an event with the mirage of a respectable company, but when you poke it with a stick, there's nothing there.
  • I've rung the FSA again and got put through to the Endowment Mortgage Section, in spite of asking for the correct people.

I will not play games and have warned that I'll go to SOCA next, but maybe there's 'nobody home' at the FSA. I'll make two more attempts today then contact SOCA and I'll pass the written submission on to them. I may have to rejig it slightly, but it will in essence be the same information.

It would be pretty serious for the bank if I do that.

In case anyone thinks I am misguided I quote direct from the FSA website

    http://www.fsa.gov.uk/Pages/About/Teams/Crime/index.shtml

    QUOTE
The reduction of financial crime is one of the FSA's four statutory objectives: section 6 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 requires us to aim to reduce the extent to which regulated persons and unauthorised businesses can be 'used for a purpose connected with financial crime'. Financial crime includes any offence involving money laundering, fraud or dishonesty, or market abuse. The objective interacts with our three other objectives – protecting consumers; market confidence; and public awareness. .................................
    ........................................
    • Firms in the UK financial sector act proportionately to prevent financial crime - fewer commit financial crime themselves and firms manage the risk of being used by others to do so with appropriate skill and care
    • Consumers are better equipped to protect themselves from financial crime
    UNQUOTE
  • As discussed, a secure and impartial depository for all evidence with respect to the issues discussed on this thread would be a useful tool. My naughty reindeer have hacked my computer and appeared to have got a website at www.bognopper.co.uk.

As I have little or no ability to bring them back to the herd for a stern talking to I have accepted that bygones be bygones and will use this site to store any material relevant to this sad debacle.

Anyone who wishes to contribute can PM me or email <edna@bognopper.co.uk> (yes it is real).

We will take all reasonable precautions to avoid copyright infringement and any other potentially illegal publication.

Sources will, of course, remain anonymous.

The reindeer are currently grazing so may take a while to get hoof to keyboard but it should start later today.

Take care, good luck with refunds, and best wishes from Edna, the cats-with-antlers, the polar bear cub in waiting and all the Lapland Norfolk staff.

Gawd, Gomer: the Endowment Mortgages Section????????

If it wasn't so serious, one could cry with laughter. . .

Edna: congratulations on a hugely impressive new website. With just a little more time and investment, it will likely out-do the Lapland New Forest effort. I look forward to seeing the Terms & Conditions.

willgiles: after kattwood's post, yours is another of the most significant kind.

    Didn't they do well!

    "Authentic Nativity Scene"!!! :rotfl:
  • Okay - well speaking to the FSA was not much help, but I'm going to submit a report to them, and looking at the SOCA website, it could take a week to fill in their 8 forms !!!!!, so I'll also report to the SFO instead. I'll need to rejig it for them, but it should get the ball rolling.

Please look at this web page.

  • Yes lisa cz - these people were not to know it, but anyone having dealings with this organisation were going to end up poorer, whatever their honest intent. I read somewhere that the workers weren't due to be paid until 24th December, and they had to face the brunt of people's anger though they too were quite innocent, and I don't rate their chances highly of seeing any money

My own opinion is that working huskies are not really much to do with Christmas and I can see why people took the view they did. Those dogs are trained to work in a harsh environment and aren't the usual fantasy view of fluffy white cuddly dogs. Above all though, this is not the main thrust of peoples complaint and anger.

I have submitted electonic reports to the FSA (without too much hope of anything happening), and one to the SFA whose site indicates that a response should follow in about 10 days. I only gave them the more relevant and important details and trust that it will alert their curiosity at least, if not their desire to investigate thoroughly.
