Thanks Gomer. I seriously hope this makes more people take action to chase up their refund (especially if they haven't already put their refund claim in).

ATTENTION PLEASE! Added mid-Jan 2009: Just as a reminder, the latest Lapland New Forest Refund Guide is here:

:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • It was naive of me not to realise that he would be raking in money from many of the contractors there as well as the punters, but the scale of the charges he is reported as claiming suggests that he knew the size of the operation.

As that would have been 'up front' money you have to wonder where that went, and I bet a lot of them are busy looking for him around town.

It should all be easy to sort out once the bankers supply details of the accountant to interested authorities, so that a fully audited set of accounts can be scrutinised.
  • Sent off my claim to Tesco credit card yesterday. Used the template off here, so they have 14 days!!
  • If you don't ask - you don't get, and every claim adds to the pressure for some arrangement to be made to refund everyone.

It is always the same few. Those who are supporting Lapland (I rtefuse to use the New Forest), are the same ones who will always go against those who have truly been scammed, or who have been let down in other ways.

Bob49, and others ask everyone who is against the Lapland issue to identify the Acts concerned. Yet none of them can give any reason as to why it was all OK. They either did not go, or went on the very first opening when no doubt things might have been different.

If one take 5 minutes away from being pendantic like bob49, BournemouthMum and Co, and look at the main group of people who brought tickets, they will notice that they come from further afield than Bournemouth. Not many locals brought tickets, why, because the locals, no the scams that have been related to Matchams for years. It is not a new thing.

Open your eyes, and ears, and read the documents, listen to the news and see for yourself. Even this evening the Sussex Police have tried to make contact with Vic and Henry Mears at their homes and businesses in Brighton, but to no avail. They have gone into hiding. So called statements were made by Vic Mears. The words used, he probably could not pronounce, it is obviously a written script from an equally scammed solicitor.

It is hard to believe that these people can make a huge scam in a town that use to have a Mayor with the same surname.

I echo Gomer's comment, but what a shame that this posting to the Bournemouth Echo is so poorly written. One hopes that it is due to anger and venom on behalf of the poster, and not a lack of education or eloquence which, sadly, would only play into the perpetrators hand.

Mind you, a more cynical reasoning is that it may just be a double scam carried out by LNF supporters, intended to humiliate those defending consumer rights and to devalue their endeavours.

    Just my 2d worth.

  • I think it's quite a supportive comment and the extra information is interesting to hear, though I cannot find any record of anyone with the surname 'Mears' ever being Mayor.

I've found a few other interesting items that I'll post over the next few days, just to show that I'm keeping my eye on things. The thread can act as a repository for information and links. I'll also post a link to the stored web pages of the original site too, as a memorial to over ambitious advertising. :rotfl:

No but I have found this -
    http://www.citylocal.co.uk/cities/Brighton/news/article/18772/
And let's face it Leader of the Council is probably a more powerful role than the largely ceremonial role of Mayor.

    Also this:
    http://present.brighton-hove.gov.uk/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=161
And under register of interests M Mears works for C H Mears, Fruit and Veg traders: http://www.qype.co.uk/place/159657-C-H-Mears-sons-Brighton

Important note, this information is in the public domain and is linked here as a response to earlier queries. There is no suggestion that there is any connection between this post and other previous posts referring to persons with the same surname.

I will also maintain a separate repository for back up as I previously suggested (not trying to infringe on your excellent work Gomer!).
  • Just got my local Friday ad, and guess what is advertised in a full page advert!!!!!!! YES, Lapland New Forest....Where dreams really do come true!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • It is a bit old now but this is interesting if one looks at the bottom reader's comment re Frederick Nash:

    http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/lapland/3947804.Director_at_centre_of_festive_fiasco_proves_elusive/
  • An interesting aside, the Bournemouth Echo claimed on 3rd Dec that Victor Mears was the great-uncle of Mary Mears, Leader of Brighton and Hove council, yet a statement by the council (printed in the same paper!) said she was a 'distant relation'. Now I do not consider my great nieces 'distant relations'. Maybe what the statement was supposed to say is that councillor Mears is distancing herself from her relations. Just a thought.
