On a workstation at an Internet Service Provider almost directly connected to the core network - capacity pretty much unlimited.

Nice if you can get it. :)

LOL - sorry. Thats only at work - at home it's a lot (lot!) slower. There are some advantages to working where I do and super fast Internet access is one of them. :o

Just to make up for it this is home:

Would this kind of data be any use, for people using Firefox and willing to install it?

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1743

It shows how long it took to start getting data back from the remote web server, total time to draw the page from click to finish, amount of bytes transferred and number of requests needed to fulfil the load.

As an example clicking the reply button for this took 1.448s to start getting data back, 2.538s to complete, it was 95KB in size and took 3 requests.

    Interesting.

Firebug will do a similar job I think (with some nice graphs).

Ahhhh - that the one I've had before! Especially nice as it shows you the individual elements rather then just a summary.

Thanks guys, it's all interesting and useful information. The request for a main site page load time was directed at clio specifically as they are on dial up and it helps me establish a ratio of speed for the different sub domains (www vs forums). Dalkirst, are you on dial-up as well?

Godders, wouold you say that there has been a general improvement since we made the change?

Soolin, how was last night's speed?

    Webby

No Virgin Media 10meg and it runs close to that on speedtest aswell. It's only this site i have problems with aswell:)
It is running a bit better i think though.
