Is it worth ringing them instead of going through the whole process of writing a letter.

I just got sacked from my job on Friday. && All of my wages has gone because of these bank charges :( because I have gone over my overdraft without realising :( could really do with getting the money back asap as I have got my driving test next week and need the money for driving lessons.

I have really messed up god dammit :(

I got all my CC charges back plus interest just with 2 phonecalls, didn't send a single letter.
Always worth giving them a ring before you put pen to paper in my experience. Good luck x

I thought that but ringing has been getting me nowhere and i am in genuine hardship, which not every1 is. I am SO fed up with Halifax!
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

  • Hi,

can you tell me when you sent off your first letter did you send off copies of statements or just the list of calculated charges?

    thanks
  • Ive just been charged £98 by HBOS. I called but as I have had a charge refunded in the past they would not reverse these new charges. Is there any point in complaining or is it a waste of time? I have been charged over £500 since I began banking with them. I'm waiting and hoping for a positive outcome from the FSA but I want to act now!

No probs. It was Halifax CC.
I just phoned the customer relations number(which you can find on a thread started by harriet's mum) and asked them for a list of charges. They said ok and sent them out. Then I phoned and said could I please reclaim said charges over the phone. Lady said ok, will set things in motion and are you reclaiming the full amount. I said yes.
After hanging up , I worried about the fact no mention had been made of interest as the phonecall went so quickly and easily I was a bit stunned so forgot to mention it. Anyway, I get a letter from Halifax a week later saying I could have half of it.
I then rang the customer relations number and said please could I have more than what you are offering. So sorry that is three phonecalls.
aNYWAY, she said, well I haven't got the power to authorise that but will escalate the claim and pass you to the complaints dept.
Within a week, I had a letter saying sorry you are not happy with the crap offer and without admission of liability, please find all charges and interest (btw totalling a little more than I had originally calculated) have been refunded to your account with immediate effect. IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY YOU CAN GO TO THE OMBUDSMAN. lol.:T
hopped online to check, and indeed they had been reapplied to my account, reducing my balance beautifully and giving me renewed hope for the future!
I had actually typed the letters out each time, but just because I am a lazy mare thought, I'll just give them a call on the offchance, what's the worst they can say.
Saved me the cost of any stamps!
Anyway, that's my story. Good luck everyone.
    Thanks MSE.:money:

I wouldn't specify a reduced amount. Tell them again you want the full lot with interest and you WILL go to the ombudsman if necessary. Good luck.
