hi
think im going to follow this thread aswell, i was on weight watchers for about 4 months last year and lost 21lbs, i was well chuffed and when i got the hang of it i could reel off loads of the points values, this all went wrong when my sister went into intensive care and i didnt leave the hospital for the week, eat far to much chcoclate and never got back on it, but i have started back on it today after putting all of my weight back on so im even more determined to stick to it this time,
i found it was definately worth buying a weight watchers calculater but could never get on with the electronic organiser, the diary are good as they make you realise if you have drank enough etc for the day and also watch your weight go down to keep you motivated,
also on the back of all of tescos healthy living range are the points values really easy to use
and finally i will stop rambling by telling you that although its best to cook from fresh for those nights you dont have enough time tesco at the moment have all of their weight watchers frozen ready meals half price till the begining of feb, they are about 80 odd pence each
hope that helpsIf you want the rainbow you have to go through the rain.
DMP start jan 2012 hopefull finish march 2020

We have a "Lose Weight" thread which has been running for ever (nearly). Everyone is welcome, regardless of what plan they follow. We have SWers, WWers, Calorie Counters and a few who are just cutting back - everyone is friendly and we all try hard to motivate and support each other regardless of their chosen plan.
It's a sticky at the top of this forum, so pop in and say hello.

Hiya,
Another W.W. here, and have been so since the begining of Sept last year. I'm finding it not too bad now, ok I've had the odd blip / crap attack. The joys of being female. Why oh why can't I crave a tub of cherry tomatoes at times like this?
Anyway so far I've managed to lose 31lbs, but still a long way to go. When doing the points, it's a case of utilising everything to maximise your points. For example using tinned tomatoes / pasata sauce and adding your own herbs and spices to flavour it. I use jars of lazy garlic and lazy chillies. (About £1.35 each from Asda or Tesco but they last for ages). This makes your sauces 0 points, where as if you used a jar of sauce, they will be more than 0pts!
Also, utilize stock cubes for the same reason, when making a veggie stir fry I often cook my sharwoods noodles, (no others seem to taste as good to me), I cook them in a couple of beef or chicken oxo cubes to flavour them and then have been known to add the chinese one to stir fry veggies to make a meal which is only 3pts (60g noodles = 3pts). This is great especially if you have been over indulgent and need to cut back. You can always add chicken / beef / quorn if you want and adjust the points accordingly.
PS Rice noodles are great too as an alternative, again cooked with a stock cube to flavour them. I had these the other day (60g) cooked with a chicken stock cube, an iceland chicken kiev and veggies - Total 7 1/2pts.
Potatoes, I started off using 300g of potatoes with my meals, but I now only use 200g, but again if I'm running short 150g is more than enough and if you are hungrier just add a few more free veggies.
On the subject of veggies, especially in stir frys, I tend to go for things which are crunchie, and cut them into strips, but when it comes to roasting veggies for a change, I tend to cut them up roughly and leave them pretty chunky.
Don't limit your veggies to the likes of carrots, potatoes, sweetcorn, try others like mangetout, baby corn, pepper, mushrooms, courgette. All great in a stir fry.
Lastly, the free (farting) soup, a saviour on bad days or if you need to save points for anything.
When making stir fry's or the soup I operate on the "bung method" - what ever is lying around I bung in along with a couple of stock cubes. Yes even left over sprouts went into the soup! But if you are putting in potatoes remember to count them. I've been known to put in a large potato into a large pot of soup (big pressure cooker) and it works out at about 1/2 -1pt a bowl depending on the size of bowl you have.
Hope this helps and good luck to you all!
PS I'm on 23pts a day.0
