They never recovered the guy I knew from july 7th, which I weirdly take comfort from as it means he was so close to the explosion that he wouldn't have had time to know what was happening or to feel any pain. We waited 2 weeks for him to be confirmed as dead, I can't imagine how it must have been waiting for months to hear about a family member.£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

one family member went out and worked out there with Tsunami victims as a way of coming to terms with it... not sure you ever completely do tho....Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

No I don't think you have come to terms with something like that but helping probably makes you deal with it a little better.Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712

The family I know have completely changed their life - given up high flying jobs to rewarding ones with more time for their children.
All still suffer nightmares and the Dad says he never sleeps properly when his back there but doesn't want to stop returning.Looking for the perfect home and saving to make becoming a MFW easier

I have been through a lot of things in the last few years including losing a child. It changed my life forever and makes me think so very differently about so many things.
Friends and family are precious.
Oh hun, that is terrible, I am so, so sorry.
You are right about the change in perspective, I often find myself thinking about the people that I care about that have died when I have big decisions to make or feel like things are getting too much, they just sort of pop into my head.£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

It sounds like we have all been thro some major stuff of one type or another....
PAID - yeah with the person we knew that died in the Tsunami someone was there with him and saw him knocked unconscious straightaway so he wouldn't have known what was happening... that brought some comfort altho it was an image I couldn't get out of my mind for months....
Do you know what it would be really interesting to meet up with people on this thread at some future point.... I bet we are really different and yet have some similarities... I met up with someone on the special occasions board a couple of times - she had some of the same pictures in her house as me and some of the same colour paint on the walls! Her husband did a similar job to mine...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
