  • Morning all, paid a bit more off the dreaded A&L card today, as when we got the statement yesterday noticed they are increasing the interest rate to 30%, the b4stards!!!, I wouldn't mind but we have never missed a payment and also overpay on this anyway!!, maybe that's why they've done to try to make more money out of us now they are realising that we are paying it off

That is awful, they shouldn't be allowed to do that. I have an A&L card, it was 2.9% for purchases until 15 November (next month) and is reverting back. I also did a 0% balance transfer onto it (silly I know but I was desperate at the time) for £1,000 I think.

That was why I enquired with LloydsTSB what rate they had as I have a £12,000 limit on that card and would have transferred the A&L if they had had a better/longer deal but I thought 4.9% for 6 months with a 3% fee was a complete waste of time.

I am due my credit card statement from A&L but will be interested to see next month if they increase my limit a lot. I'm so determined to get lots listed on Ebay this weekend to try and pay off as much as I can, can get a lot done from tomorrow lunchtime as the kids are going away so will just have my 5 month old to look after.

Christ Millie thats unreal! No chance of applying for another card to try and BT to?

Mike - Sorry to hear about your DooYoo, like was said I think you should email them and just say you werent aware of some of the etiquette surrounding rating reviews, and ask the to reinstate it. You put a lot of effort in there be a shame to just lose it!

So far, no debt busting has been done today.
However DH transferred £450 into our debt account yesterday and when he gets paid will be transerring £620 each month which is our basic payback amount. I'm then going to be trying to earn/save where I can to pay off some extra.

However.... there is a slight problem with som of our payments, some of them are ste up to pay out before the £620 goes in, hence why he transferred £450.
So I just need to work out how much of the £450 has to stay there to cover the payments before the £620 goes in, and then it will all be fine....

Although really I should just get the direct debit dates changed.....

So hopefully should be able to pay off £100 or so today when I've worked out the maths of it!

  • CAFC girl, no can't get another BT deal at the moment as we're not on the electoral roll, we are registered with the council but they don't update with the credit reference agencies until 1st December, I didn't know this so applied for a couple of cards and got declined, this is why I think as everything else is ok on our file, so this means really I can't apply for another one until April which is annoying!!!

I'm trying to BT bits off it onto all our other cards at the moment (as they are all around 14% apart from my hubby's Egg which is 0% until Jan 2010 but we have maxxed that now lol!)

I will get a bonus from work at the end of this month though which should be around £1000 after tax so that will go straight off it, need to get this one paid off.

What has annoyed me though is that they haven't even told us the rate has gone up, I just happened to notice the monthly interest rate charge on the back of the statement, compared it to last months and worked it out and its gone up from 26.4% to 30.35%!!!!, I hope they go bust!

    Hi

Every bit helps, I'm saving coins in sealed tins at the moment and when they are full will open them and pay off a debt as an extra payment.

I sell as a Business on Ebay, I used to buy things from Wholesalers to sell on, have had to stop now and am working my way through my stock, I mainly sell children's Character clothing but lots of other people do too so it's quite competitive now compared to when I first started a few years ago now.

If you are buying to sell you have to register with HMRC, I have to do Tax Return every year, have one to do now, you need to declare it to the Tax Man even if you are not earning enough to pay tax, I don't earn enough after all the fees, postage and packaging materials are taken off.

When I'm debt free and this credit crunch is over I'll start up again properly as I like doing it as I can do it to fit in around the children, my eldest will start full time school in January and the middle one will start at the Nursery where the eldest one is now so I'll have a bit more time, will just have the little one to look after then.

At least uv realised and can take action against it now! Thats something!

Good news about bonus as well, that will really help.

We've got a xmas bonus scheme at work this yr but I've got a snowballs chance in hell of getting it. Basically its gross profit margin lead, so need to control our costs and increase our sales but people just arent spending so its all a bit pants really. Although thats probably why they did it! Knowing we wouldnt achieve it.
Oh well its a bit of a pipe dream so will see what happens.

Paid my £120 off my IF.com card so feeling a bit lovely about that and just trying to decide what to rate next on Dooyoo. Im hoping to accrue 10,000 miles a week, and Ive got 10k already for 4 more weeks and i should have enough for a payout. I dont want to do too many and get account blocked for "churning" lol

The next challenge within this challenge for me will be controlling our food shop so that I can hopefully save £20-£30 off that this month to use to overpay.Ive looked through the OS board and there are lots of good ideas over there but some I just cant master! Like meal planning LOL Plus its a bit scary over there :(

    :hello: Hi all,

decided to pop over here and update. I think I've done £213 of inroads into that 15k this month. It's a start. Can't wait till next pay to know how much back pay I'm getting and how much I can put towards paying off debts.

CAFCGirl, I'm doing the Grocery Challenge on OS board. That's really helped me. First half of this month I had to meal plan as only had so much money till 15th. But after it went bit haywire, but I'm still coming in on budget. And I think, if I'll be careful for this last week, there'll be some left from that money as well.

So, I should have at least £40 left at the end of the month. Do you think I should put that towards my credit cards or my student loan? I pay my student loan every 4 months, because otherwise I would spend over £100 a year transferring money abroad and I'm not willing to waste that. I save money towards it in HSBC's online bonus saver account. But now I'm thinking there must be better deals out there as they've just reduced the interest. Anyone know any good ones?

I say pay it off the credit card.... but then I am now slowly building up a great resentment to credit cards... DEATH TO EVIL CREDIT CARDS! LOL

I dont know anything about savings accounts, as I never have any money to save, but hopefully someone can answer for you xx

I budget £175 for food for my and DH, which is quite a bit, so I should be able to shave a bit off of that. We've got plenty of food but I just need to get better at actually cooking up meals rather than just relying on oven cookable things....

  • Hi all

No progress from me yet, but I start my new job on 1st December and have worked out the tax etc and should have £300 extra each month so watch this space January onwards. I am hoping to pay £1000 out of this month's salary so that should reduce my debt by about £870 on the first of the month

(ahem I would be paying more this month as I have a small amount of back pay but I *might* have spent about that amount on my credit card which I will be clearing in full a week tomorrow, on the bright side I have nearly finished my xmas shopping :D )
