You want to claim for a cut thumb? How long did you need off work to get a tetanus jab? Could you not have gone in the evening?

If your thumb was that bad, you'd have gone to A&E and had the tetanus shot at the same time (in the evening).

If you really are considering a claim (I can't believe you are), then you will need medical evidence.

But really, isn't your prime concern reporting it before someone else gets a cut? After all, it could be a haemophiliac next time!

I did just say that I was going to report it and then see what happens, thanks

I doubt it - those travelling fairground rides are dangerous and the owners difficult to track down - I always thought that was fairly common knowledge.

At the fair which comes around near us they had a ride which went upside down and yet the safety harnesses used to come open in mid ride, the glass capsule you rode in was cracked too. It was banned on the third year of this being the case!

The one that comes here annually is a well established company and they take safety very seriously!! They go all over the country and have insurance and safetly checks done to comply with regulations.

I used to know the bloke who owns it and I can assure you he is a very decent person!!

Yes there may be one or two that are a bit dodgy, but let's not get carried away here!

report it fine but please remember it is their livelyhood and i am sure they wouldnt cut corners but i guess you cant monitor everything.a lot of people get a lot of enjoyment and i would think incidents dont happen that often.
  • Ok, fair enough, I am sure there must be decent legitimate travelling fairs around the country but the main one we get here, which is here at the moment, is just awful, the local traders and a fair portion of the residents have been trying to get it banned for years. It's silly really because there is always one the week before in another town nearby which a few of the same rides & their owners attend and it seems much better managed and more suited to the space allocated too.

There will be quite a few travelling fairs around at the moment as it's the traditional time for them - see this wikipedia article.

I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right

First of all - chances of getting ANY compensation... EXTREEMLY low... It's a cut finger... the first aider fixed it with a plaster. Ok so you need a tetanus jab... big deal :)
If you're concerned about the safety - report it to the council. As for seeking compensation... Wait till you break an arm/leg or get a cut that requires serious stitches...

Im with the others on this one. Think if you are genuinely worried about the safety aspect you should report it to your local council. Asides from that theres not much else you can do, a few years ago I broke my elbow on a ride in a fairground and basically knew that there was no come back. A&E told me they see quite a lot of cases where injury had been caused by a ride, seems to be a bit of a 'common' thing unfortunately
Its hard to wait around for that something you know may never happen, but its harder to give up when you know its everything you ever wanted.........

People tell me Im going the wrong way..............when its simply a way of my own!

There should be a board around the fair you went to advertising a telephone number and the name of the owner such as Jennings, Abie Danter, Derek Codona. Might be worthwhile giving them a call and explain the situation, they may put up a sign explaining to not release yourself from the ride, preventing it from happening in the future. As for compensation, it's unlikely.

However the rides are still maintained and have to be approved under certain regulations by a heath and safety body. If you wish you can contact the council or the health and safety body who can investigate for you.

Out of curiousity what sort of ride was it?

This is the source of all those stupid signs telling you not to do things.
Just pay more attention in the future.
The world is full of dangers.
    Happy chappy
