Well done for phoning the doctor and making an appointment! Believe me I know how scary that is.
You need to tell the doctor what you have said here, if you really can't face saying the words out loud then write it down and take it with you. But please tell them as they can help you or refer you to help.
Don't worry they won't tell you off for missing your counselling appointment, and if you weren't really up to doing it Im not sure it would have helped anyway.0 -
I forgot to say if you find your GP unhelpful (I have had one and I now avoid her!) ask to see another in the same practice (if there is one), if not see if you can register with another GP that someone you know has used and found to be helpful.
There is probably a way to complain about unhelpful doctors although I don't know it.0 -
well iv got all week to pluck the courage up so hopefully i can do it all i can think of now is what im going to say when i get there, its true how little things for somepeople can be mountains for others my anxity really holds me back doing so manny things i hope i can overcome is one day. can your gp say they dont belive you if you tell them you are in pain or do they have to act on what you tell them. i have records going back to 8 years old with problems on my hip last time i went was early this year for my hip not to claim any benifits just to tell her its gradualy gotten worse so she referd me to the orthopecic hospital who specialise in bones and they just said all you can do is take pain killers the only thing wwe can do is the hip replacement which is up to you to tell us when you think you need it.to be honest im going to start thinking about having it done i just cant face it rite now maby in a years time. im scared of been examined the last time i was examined i layed on a bed and she lifeted my legs up down left rite to compare the two and i felt so stupid because she said stop tensing your leg i was like well when your in pain its natrul reaction to tence maby im over reacting i always feel guilty evern when im innocent and people pick up on it this is the sole reason i never go to my doc or claimed any benifits before.0

Hi Jox
Just logged on today to see how your doing and well done for making the first step. Like someone said just print this out and take it along then you won't forget to tell them anything.
Please remember to phone the CAB to help you fill out your forms and tell you exactly what you are entitled to that will take loads of stress of you as well.
Just keep thinking of all the help and support you are getting and remember people do care and want to help you!
Good luck and im glad you have got so far already:j0 -
Hi Jox
My mil suffers with aggraphobia although she is fine with going out and about in taxis or if someone goes with her and she stays close to buildings etc...anyway when she got all her forms she took them to the CAB and they filled them out for her.
Good Luck on Friday, have you got anyone who can go with you, even if they wait in the waiting room for you so you can talk in private with the doctor.
Mel xUnless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.0 -

take little steps jox. i have suffered with depression and anxiety on and off for 20 years and have only seen my GP a handful of times. i hate going to the doctors and put it off as long as I can.
I recently changed my GP (same practice) and I feel much more comfortable with her.
It takes a long time to get well, so don't feel bad about not getting help sooner.
You will get there in the end!

i seen my doc last year and he refferd me to a specialist who told me i will need a hip replacement at sometime but as im so young they dont want to do it yet as a new hip will only last so manny years he said try and cope until it becomes unbareable and you really need it my hip is always in pain but not really bad pain 24/7 i can walk around ok sometimes but if i stand up for too long or walk it will all start i get sharp shooting pains run down my leg that can last for well over an hour i really dont want the op yet i feel im too young not to work i want nothing more to work but iv put up with it so long and its gotten worse now to the point i cant work without ending up in agony im so frustrated i dont know what to do can i claim benifits jsa just isnt enough i feel like people will think im trying to scam money because i dont want to work and if i get examined on a good day the doc will think hes fines but im not lying i just want to cry!margaretclare wrote: »Your GP sounds to be a bit out of date.
Hip replacements are being done on younger people all the time. My daughter had both done when she was 35. I wasn't even 50 when I had my left one done, and the point is, they can be revised. I had the other one done in 1987, that's 21 years ago, and it is still going strong. They can last a very long time.
Get some up-to-date information on total hip replacements and then go to see a GP who's a bit more modern and can give you up-to-date information. Do not suffer pain needlessly. No one wants that nowadays - there are things that can be done. If it's affecting your quality of life, then get something done about it.

First of all Jox you have my sympathies, if i did not know any better i would say most of your story was about my husband! He too has Perthes disease diagnosed at 7 and had numerous operations, when he was operated on the damage was far worse than they expected and the operation was much longer than they anticipated resulting in my DH being in intensive care for quite some time.
My DH worked up until last July (he too is 23 and worked since being 16) when he became too ill to work, the only difference is that my DH has another disease on top of the Perthes. He hates being on Benefits and it took him quite a while to finally give in to the pain and suffering and realise he just could not cope with work (work were forcing him to leave anyhow as they didnt have any sympathy for his diseases).
You should not feel ashamed about it, you have worked the past few years you are not going to claim benefits because you are lazy, you are disabled, you didn't ask to be life is just unfair sometimes, there is absolutely no need to feel like you are 'scamming' money! I have had people on this forum say nasty things about myself and my husband, but they need to ask themselves if they had 2 extremely painful, degenerative diseases would they sit at home, housebound with no money at all? Would they sit there and say no 'i'm scum i cannot scam money from taxpayers', no they would not because IF they have these diseases they are genuinely in need of benefits. If benefits aren't there to help a disabled person who for 7 years of his adult life worked full time until it all became too much because their illness was getting worse then who are they for? I'm sure every person with a disability would gladly stop this 'scamming' and go to work if it meant they weren't disabled anymore!
As for the hip replacement my Husband too has been told he should not even consider having this done because he is so young, it is ok for people to say 'thats out dated they can last a lot longer now', yes they can last longer but on somebody who has had hip disease since being a young child has a very weak hip bone, as we were told by my Husbands consultant each time you need a hip replacement they have to shave a little bit of the hip off to sit the replacement on top of this, if my DH had this done now at 23 it would possibly last until around 38/40 (maybe longer) but for somebody who already has a leg much shorter than the other each time this leg is operated on to accomodate the replacement it not only gets a little shorter but it becomes a little weaker too, at present hip replacements generally last around 15/20 years (thats if they work in the first place my Gran had one that hasn't worked and needs to be re-done only 6 months later) that could mean possibly 2/3 replacements in a life time. My DH was also advised that eachtime this operation is done the hip will become a weaker therefore the success will be less eachtime, for Perthes Disease a hip replacement is not a cure, it will help obviously but as most Doctors will tell you it is not a miracle cure, it will not change arthritis nor any other problems associated with it.
I do think that you should pursue the DLA, we are in the process of again trying to get this for my DH, even a lady at the benefits office could not believe he was refused the first time we tried (he too had DLA paid when he was under 16 but he was unaware of this and didnt even know what DLA was until last year).
It is a hard disease to live with, as my DH's carer i see the pain and suffering he goes through all the time, he very rarely gets to leave home and gets very depressed about this, he also sometimes has panic attacks, you are not alone there are other people out there that suffer the same, there is help available to you so please use it and don't be afraid to get the help you deserve! Good luck.0
