You might get housing benefit, you will get a reduction on your council tax for being disabled too.

Ring social services to see if they have a bus service that you can use such as Ring & Ride and see if they can provide you with means to get about e.g. a disability scooter. I know that some large shopping centres have disability scooters that they loan out so that you can access their stores - one that springs to mind is Merry Hill in Dudley but I am sure there are others with similar schemes.

ALL big shopping centres have mobility scooters. Even Tesco, Waitrose and the like have them.

Horace, do you mind if I translate your signature? 'Always in the sh*t, only the depth varies'. Love it.

it wasnt my gp that told me about the hip replacements it was the royal ortherpidic hospital in birmingham who my gp refferd to it was actualy the same doctor that operated on me as a child. having the hip replacement now is a major desion to make with my drepession and menta state i dont think its a good idea id like to wait a a year or too at least before i made the dession.

can anyone clear this up for me

to claim dla and incapasity do i just get the forms and send them off or do i need something from my doctor too?

also any idea how long its takes before i start getting paid?

thank you everyone who has replyed.

Get some help with the DLA application otherwise the chances are you'll be turned down, its all about how you word the application. If you've lived with a condition for many years its easy to forget how something affects you as to you it's normal. Try the Citizens advice bureau.

You sound as though you could do with some kind of therapy to increase your self esteem and confidence. Ask you gp if he can refer you to someone who can help

If you live in Birmingham I think there is a number you can call and they will arrange a call back and go through the form on the phone with you - I have it in my papers somewhere. I know that you will have to wait 8-10 weeks for the money to come through but it is backdated to the day that you make your claim. They will then send the form for you to sign and look over - feel free to add stuff to it too.

A quick rummage through my papers and I have found it:

    Disability & Carers Service
    Disability Benefits Centre
    PO Box 34
    Birmingham
    B99 1AR

    Tel: 08457 123456
Textphone (for deaf and hard of hearing only: 08457 224433)

Helpline opening hours 07.30 to 18.30 Monday to Friday.

You will need your National Insurance number as well because you need to give them this.

I have never claimed Incapacity Benefit so I am not sure how long this takes to come through, this is also backdated to the day that you make your claim.

Don't ever be afraid of claiming, you are entitled to it as you have paid your taxes. I felt the same at first when I had to claim JSA but thought to myself I have paid my taxes for the last 30 odd years so its about time I got something back.

First things first, we need to get you on DLA and Incapacity Benefit (you will have to speak to the Benefits Agency about claiming this or your local jobcentre). I think that once your money situation is sorted out a bit then that will help you especially if it helps you to widen your horizons instead of being stuck indoors all the time. Ask your GP about better pain control too.

    Hope this helps.

Pick up the phone and ring your local crisis intervention team and do it right now - they will come out and support you. Don`t wait any longer. Lots of good wishes.
Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.
  • Hi Jox

I agree with everyone else, I am sorry you are feeling like this and I wish you would get help at the docs but also if you can get to your locala CAB they will help you claim all the benefits you are so rightly entitled to and they will also help you fill in all the forms as well to save you the stress of having to deal with all those as well. They really will help you.

Good luck and let us know how you are getting on, keep strong you will get back up there feeling great sooner than you think with help if you ask xxx

By the way, being bullied at school is not the end of the world. I was bullied unmercifully all the way through primary school, sometimes being chased all the way home. My DH also had anti-semitic bullying at some of the schools he went to. We have both survived it. Me, I would not give the s*ds the satisfaction of seeing they had defeated me. Over time I've made a success of my life, the same can't be said for some of those former bullies. 'Whatever doesn't kill me, makes me stronger'.

    Best wishes

  • Hello Jox.
Just sending you some hugs through the net.
I know how you feel about the bullying and not wanting to go out.
You have written here really well how bad you feel. Print it out and show it to your GP.
I get teary and can't speak to my gp sometimes, so have written down how bad i feel. I also know how bad it makes you feel, being constantly skint and jobless.
You feel unable to make friends. The first question most people say to you "where do you work?" It's embarassing explaining, "I am ill with depression"
In your case, you also have a real physical illness to cope with too.
i hope you get the right help that you need! And that you feel better soon
    Take care!

You klnw something? No matter who we are what our problems are or how we llok, we all get scared of silly things. I get very worried about alsorts of things. I get very scared of getting lost as I cant read a map. I worry terribly when I have to meet new people in new places and I worry about waht people are thinking of me. BUT we all worry about things, something that is really little to one person can be a mountain to another.

Think of yourself as a tall strong person, which you so clearly are. When you go to the dr on Friday, tell it how it is explain how down you feel how much pain your in and how you feel isolated. Hopefully your dr will be a good person and help you out by referring you to the right kind of ppl.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!
