they won't excahnge or do anything without a recipt.

Why the suprise? That's the whole point of receipts.
ANy stores that do exchange goods with a receipt are doing it purely out of goodwill - they don't have to do it, and why should they?

If you paid by card they may accept a bank statement as proof of purchase.

You only have 14 days to exchange anyway so don't bother doing your xmas shopping there .
I won't be shopping there again atall.

at christmas they allow you longer to take things back if they mark your receipt as a christmas gift.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

It's worth being aware withthat there are a number of shops that will only give you an exchange within a very short time frame.Others that won't even exchange (it's legal).

From what I have seen these seem to be shops who work on a lower profit margin (you are getting it pretty damn cheap to start with) like certain cheap sports shops, or have a rapidly changing stock of end of range or slight seconds (tx maxx and similar discount stores).Tk maxx have a massive range,it must be difficult to identify their own stock-hence loss.

So the bottom line is-you got it cheap to start with-ask what their refund policy is,also,if they refund in cash (some won't).

The good old days of taking anything back when it suited you are going to be a thing of the past.
I used to have a relative who regularly bought loads of clothes from m& s she didn't really want, then it sat in the wardobe until the prices dropped ,then she would take them back in high dudgeon (no logic to that),its people like that who cause companies to lose money and spoil it for the rest of us.

Companies often lose money on returned goods,so have had to tighten up the rules to survive.

So not only did you manage to buy the wrong size, but you also managed to lose your proof of purchase?

And this is someone elses fault??

I always thought returns/exchanges on perfectly good stuff was a courtesy not a legal requirement

THEY DIDN'T EXTEND THAT COURTESY to you because you didn't have proof of purchase, If I remember a previous thread people would steal their cheap stuff then return it without a receipt for a cash refund.

Policy doesn't suck if you follow the rules
