Old Stylers I need your help.

Gordon Ramsey's new Cookalong programme is doing a credit crunch special and I've been asked to cook a MoneySaving dish against him - on a sub £5 budget though the cheaper the better.

Here's the problem. I AM A TERRIBLE COOK. I need something simple, but sexy, that'll beat him. Im thinking desert would be easy. It also needs to be something NOT out of a recipe book - if i do it I will try and credit the oldstyler with the dish.

AND i need to be able to present it well and easily... AAAAAAAAAARGGGHH

(they called today and asked if i can do it tomorrow, which I can't but this could be needed soon)

Suggestions and detailed instructions and any help needed.

Massive thanks in advance

Martin

ADDENDUM: FOrgot to say i think doing a cheap dessert would be good :)

This is always really nice :)

    Baked Salmon Fillets Dijon

    Ingredients

    448 g salmon
    45 ml prepared Dijon-style mustard
    salt and pepper to taste
    30 g Italian-style dry bread crumbs
    55 g butter, melted

    Instructions
    1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a shallow baking pan with aluminum foil.
    2. Place salmon skin-side down on foil. Spread a thin layer of mustard on the top of each fillet, and season with salt and pepper. Top with bread crumbs, then drizzle with melted butter.
    3. Bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until salmon flakes easily with a fork.

This is a great idea, i'm glad you're doing it to show him how cheaply it can be done. I'm not sure on a recipe i'll have a think. Somebody will have one to beat him i'm sure.

How long would you have to make and serve the dish? Is it something that needs to be done in 20 minutes, or would you have longer?

  • Okay, how about Lamb Hot Pot, you will need -

2 lamb or mutton chops (sliced into squares)
    1 sheeps kidney (sliced)
    1 onion (sliced thinly)
    potatoes cut thin
    splash of Worcestershire sauce
    knob of butter
    salt/pepper for seasoning
    water

Put a layer of sliced potatoes in the bottom of a deep oven dish. Add a layer of chops and kidney. Fill up with alternating layers of potatoes, onions and chops/kidney. Finish with a potato layer. Fill dish up to top with water, add Worcestershire sauce and a knob of butter. Cover with greased paper. Put in hot oven (200 C) for 1-1 1/2 hours.

You can tell Gordon Ramsey this is Maw Broons receipe so he cannot win!

    Good luck:D

PS I know you said not out of a receipe book but GR cannot beat Maw Broon

  • Is that £5 just for a pudding, for how many people

Eton Mess is easy and delicious :j Crush a pack of meringues. Mix in a tub of thick double cream and some raspberries and strawberries. Make a sauce by sieving some of the fruit, and mix the juice with a little icing sugar. Drizzle over and dust with more icing sugar.
