Tis rather a dull day compared with recent bright weather. So to cheer me up I've invited you all to my place where we have croissants and coffee, with or without cream and brandy.
I think I've moved the cafe to a 5-star hotel for that added indulgence without virtual cost!0 -
Hello all, can I join you?
My DH nearly died last week but is getting better slowly, thank God. And just because it was such a near thing and because I've been forced to think about it, I've been on the phone today and arranged both of our funerals. £2,500. Ouch. But exactly as we'd discussed, agreed and decided what we want.
DH is probably going to have a permanently stiff left leg with no knee joint in it. He's been an insulin-using diabetic since 1981 and although he's a very strong guy, led a very healthy active life in his youth, doesn't smoke etc, the diabetes has obviously been nibbling away at his defences. I am not sure whether we may have to replace our IKEA suite with something he can get in and out of more easily with a siff leg. And I am going to insist that he applies for Attendance Allowance. Because he does need help by day and by night, in fact if I hadn't been here over last weekend, and especially Sunday night, he would have died of hyperglycaemia and the infection.
His son, daughter and her husband have been fantastic, very supportive, as has everyone at church. Thank God for friends, and thank God we are not poor!!! Not rich, but still able to save. And thank God we had that lovely holiday in Germany last month.
Fried tomato and fried egg on stoneground wholemeal bread, please. With a mug of coffee. Thanks.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

and I'll be back later for a cake!!
I've just visited my aged aunt/godmother (83 yo) and taken her a lunch, sorted her out drinks etc and left her comfortable for the rest of the day. I'm really glad to see her eating well after she was so ill last week. I enjoyed scuffing up the leaves on the way home too, something I loved to do when I was a littlie ...
Margaret, sending positive vibes your way; Sleepymy, I love the quote in your siggie

Thanks to all. Yes, last week was one of the worst of my life. Possibly the only other as bad was in March 1992 when my first husband died.
I can live with French food, but for coffee, no one makes it like the Germans and Austrians. A few weeks ago we were having that lovely holiday in the Rhine Valley, now this...
Best wishesÆr ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
