I'm feeling slightly more hopeful today, but very miserable and sore at the same time, probably due to lack of sleep.

Horace stokes up the fire and goes to chop yet more wood. At this rate we will have to collect fir cones and sling them on too.

It was snowing quite badly when I left the house this morning and by the time I had reached my destination (the spa) there was no sign of it although the lanes were thick with ice. I persuaded the management to switch on the outdoor spa and I had to wait for it to get to temperature before I dashed outdoors in my towel, robe and swimming cozzie - I wallowed in the hot water up to my neck for a good half hour until my skin became like a wrinkled prune then it was a mad dash back into the indoor spa - I must be mad:eek: Still, I had a great day and made a new friend - she runs a riding school so I may just start having lessons again:j

I had leek & spud soup for lunch.

I'm back at work. O joy! We had a fire alarm so I had to stand outside in the freezing Scottish cold for 30 minutes til the fire brigade came, who told us it was a false alarm, which we knew...Give me strength.

The quilts are plumped up and ready to wrap around the poorlies.
My husband is coming down with the sniffles, just in time for our trip to Venice tomorrow. Our neighbour is taking us to the airport, which is lovely. Daughter is still bunged up with that awful cough, but she finished her essay and we delivered it yesterday evening.
The cafe is lovely and warm and whilst I shall have a coffee and virtual goodies I'm sure the elves can rustle up a virtual hot drink of any desired concoction complete with virtual no-calorie delicacies.
I think I can get used to this retirement lark!

Ooh, lovely, the fire's roaring in the grate. Mr LW tells me it was -8 when he was driving to work this morning (-6 in MK, and down to -8 when he got out of the city).

I have here potato and pasta soup (thick and filling) and freshly-made bread rolls. I've added a smidge of Tabasco to the soup, to make it extra warming, as I think we could do with it.
