I would have put a mark on the phone, like under the battery or something, a distinctive identifiable mark to show it was in fact your phone. Did you get your original box the phone came in? If you did, cant you match up the numbers, there are allsorts of numbers on the box, serial numbers etc.? Was the phone brand new? It it wasnt, are there any scratches that were on the phone you sent? He cant have sent you the phone you sent him, othersie there wouldnt have been anything in it for him. He has sent you a faulty phone, and got your fully functioning one. If i were you, tell paypal that he hasnt sent you the phone that you sent him. DONT close your ebay account, because payapl will then rule in his favour and they can chase you for the money.0

closing my ebay and paypal account was like a last option as i cannot stand to lose out on £450.
The phone was completely brand new when i sent it to him, bought from the shop day before dispatch. The box looks like the one i sent him with everything inside, however i cannot be 100% sure. I will look high and low and try to find numbers that match but to what i've seen there are no numbers on the back of the iphone that could potentially be unique identifiers..

why not suggest to him that you did in fact put an identifiable mark on the phon,e and that you know he hasnt sent you the original phone back, call his bluff.0

good idea, but what happens if he accidently broke the phone somehow, and returned the actual phone. In which case it would be his fault, the problem is proving it.
Another thing is when he asked for a refund after saying there was something wrong with the phone, he said he would settle for £350 for my troubles. I do not care who it is on this planet, no one would give up about 25% value of something just to save someone the trouble.0 -

to my understanding when the phone is bricked the phone will show the backlight only, the phone this guy has sent me does absolutely nothing, no light, no startup sound nothing.0
-
he may have shorted the phone to cover his tracks. why dont you take it into the service and see what they say?
