Just catching up from yesterday. Things definitely *are* scary at the mo, I feel it too. Like, for instance, I don't pay off my Northern Rock loan, because I might need that money back if thing get worse, so I pay off the mortgage, because I can reclaim it from there. And because if I get another big structural problem, like the retaining wall in the front garden collapsing onto the driveway (its leaning badly) I'll need thousands of pounds to repair that damage, and if I borrow it, I'll have to borrow it at a much higher rate than the current loan, because thats where rates are now. And I worry about that wall, all the time, when I wake up in the morning, I check to see its still there - tho of course, its so big, if it *did* fall, it would wake me up ....
isn't it lovely, the things we worry about ....

Probably a daft question Karma but you HAVE explored the Buildings Insurance aspect of this wall?

Hi Pepe - um, I haven't, to be honest - I thought it was just wear and tear? Its just started to sag slowly over the years. The builder who built the porch for me (on t'other side of the house, he hasn't done anything to create the problem, honest) - I got him to look at it, and he said its not tied in to the house wall, and he also said he could push it with his finger. I don't know about that, I couldn't feel it when he pushed it when I had my hand on the thing, but I know its leaning - and at the back, where its tallest, its about seven feet tall, if it *does* come down, it'll be an almighty crash. Insurance don't pay out for normal wear and tear, do they?2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Karma, not normally for wear and tear, but.....have a look at what they do pay for before gravity takes away you 'options'. IYKWIM;)

All this uncertainty, changes, bad news doesn't do anyones mindset any good.
Right lets be positive....
You will always have a job as your profession needs people
Noone can sack me as I'm S/E
have you thought about applying for a permanent position?....either p/t or f/t?...maybe that will relieve some of the not knowing and you will know what's coming in and what it costs for you to get there and whether it'sworth it.
It is what i am trying to do taxi, i keep applying but no news at mo. I feel a bit torn as i gave up full time because of DD2's prolonged hospital stays and was an impossible situation to be in (Mr.B wouldn't give up work and i understood because she is a girl an needs mum)
So the idea was that i work on a part time supply basis. All well and good if in school's which i know, but some of the agencies sent me into some places last year which frankly..I wouldn't send a pig too. I handled it ( never show fear or give an inch)However it depeleted my energies. I thought long and hard about what i wanted, so just stuck to contacts etc. This worked well for a while, but needs must and out i go again.
This also has a bit of funny effect, as agencies can pay anything for a daily rate so some days i actually earn far more (on my full rate )than others. So for example i can earn the same money for an afternoon with county council than i can earn with a scuzzy supply agency..less energy and more flexibilty.
The other side of the coin is increments, when i work for county i can pay into my pension, if i work for supply (unless linked to county ) i can't. Also if i work for so many weeks at county i go up an incremental point on the pay scale, if i work for a non county agency this doesn't count..so i lose out all round.
I am back on the county supply agency books and am hoping to get back into schools and i can link in with up to date training etc. ( although they are very good at including courses i have been on) I am also in a position where all the county course all add to my Master's qualification, about a third of the way through.
So sorry for the ramble it seems to be where my brain is at in this moment in time.:o I think it is my crumbling wall KC in my head..lean too far and i lose it all, so i need to start underpinning my foundations..Which is where Pepe comes in i believe.:D :rotfl:
Sunday is here and the weather is clear, am off out for a walk in a bit after a quick catch up on diaries.
Hope you all have a good weekend.Bob..x
PS. I slept very well last night, maybe getting it off my chest helped and i watched Mama Mia..had a good singalong and thought of you whilst i was warbling ED:D :ABlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

And have you a really good holiday sorted?
Lastminute.com keep sending me details of reduced price Spa days/weekends/breaks and chance you could indulge yourself?
You don't want to ruin a good holiday by taking Mr B along at the moment? -not for any other reason but that you need a rest {OO tries to stop digging}0 -
You are quite right OO. He has ruined a couple of hols with his little problem, funnily enough camping not so bad as in the fresh air and everyone is generally flat out.
I am deperate for a good nights sleep for a few nights on the trot..if that makes sense. So i haven't a lot of dosh spare and was thinking what i can do..obvious sloution is to go to DD1's for a few days as my lovely SIL is on manaouveres in the Arctic circle so spare room for me and Cornish ale..sounds good eh?
I would like a spa hol, but i am not very good at that sort of thing..i would be twitching to be on the move probably.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
