Coop Bank - Unethical
Comments
-
Co-op have done nothing wrong in either case.I've just been informed that a credit card application got rejected by a member of staff in one of their banks - on the same day that I had physically been present to supply documents/ID etc - the reaosn? the name on the ID and that on the application was different.
Might seem like an arsey thing to do not to tell you, but it is your job to make sure that the name on your application and ID/supplied documents is the same. You cannot blame the bank for your mistake.huh? I was THERE. for almost an hour. they could have told me this whilst i was there to get another form drafted up and completed. I dont make a habit of visiting far off places (they only have one single branch in this area) for such banking fun.
Did you not check the application yourself?
I mean, you travelled all this way to the branch with an application form and identification. And you did not check to see if everything you had filled in was correct?
I'm sorry but that is the first thing anyone should do when they have finished the form. Checked to see if everything had been filled in, names match, details were correct, and you had the required evidence that they require. Hardly the banks fault that you made a mistake on the application form which you should have checked and identified the mistake yourself. You cannot expect them to hold your hand.result? I'm keeping with my credit cards that I've got from fairly openly unethical banks. If they are the only ones happy to lend me their money then I'm afraid thats how our economy works. if you dont lend money the system fails. It would be unethical of me to be part of a breaking system that causes millions to lose their jobs, interest rates to crumble so that noone who saves gets money etc.
You can't blame a bank for a mistake YOU made. They did not fill in the form incorrectly. They did not put a different name on your application form than your identification states. They did not do anything unethical. It is your mistake and to complain at their bank staff and the bank itself for doing wrong, when you did wrong, is hardly ethical in itself.0 -
it really annoys me when people blames banks etc and use the following excuses:
Being ill (cancer is a good one)
single mum
old
disabled (that gets my goat the most, playing the disabled *card*
Or just not reading a firms T + Cs.
If you friend was that metally challanged he shouldnt have been operating his own account
some people need to get a gripFor everthing else there's mastercard.

Hang on a minute, I think that's a bit unfair.
Bipolar can be absolutely devastating and means that the person has problems trying ot deal with everyday things. OP's friend may well have had difficulty operating the account - I have had several issues come up with banks due to diabetic-related memory loss and they have been brilliant with me. This doesnt mean I shouldnt be operating a bank account!!! There is a thread on another website about a person with terminal cancer who was harrassed constantly by Halifax and their treatment was disgusting. Terminal cancer is not nice and Im sure that most people dont use it as a light excuse!
Unless any of you have significant in-depth knowledge of bi-polar and its effects you shouldnt make assumptions that the person is making an excuse. And before any of you challenge me, I do happen to know about the effects of bi-polar, Im a nurse on a mental health ward. I have looked after accounts on patients behalf as it seems most bank staff dismiss any sort of illness out of hand. So dont be so quick to judge.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
I work in a department of a major telecoms department which deals with credit control issues.
You get used to some of the useless excuses people up. You would be surprised by the number of people who need thier phone on because they have cancer/disabled son(thats a really overly used one) or dead dad, just to keep thier phone on etc etc.
Now ok some of these maybe true but the majority are totally false. People are far to quick to blame some other issue for there misfortune. For everthing else there's mastercard.

Thanks Mrs Ryan, very good post indeed.
My partner also works with Mental health patients in a private rehab unit, she works with clients on a one to one basis and sometimes they have nobody looking after their financial matters for them, so just re-think the "nasty" un-helpful comments posted on here for a minute and try and think how you would cope with a disability like the OP's friend has.
I am sure the person has more things to worry about on a day to day basis than simple addition and subtraction.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
Would it not then have been bad advise by the bank to allow a customer who is at risk of going overdrawn, or their condition can affect their ability to control such an account?
Surely they should have been given a book based account or VISA electron which could not have gone over drawn. That would have been what I would have advised if I was selling a product to a client. Because if there is cause for concern that the condition could lead to the account going overdrawn, it might have been best to give them an account that couldn't.0 -
