    This is annoying

Originally, the PVR was advertised as being able to record two separate channels while watching one of them. This has now changed to being able to 'record one channel while watching another'!

If you would like to view/download a graphic of the original Aldi email advertisment for this PVR you can find it on my web page :-

It is only about 65K to download.

  • £99.99 for a single tuner 'Technosonic' PVR is not value!

Well it looks more like a Dual tuner single record, still cheap but not what was advertised and certainly not going to do the same job.

I've had my Humax dual tuner dual record, watch a (certain) third a few days now and it is superb.

Thanks for the original advert virgo. I was really looking forward to the 'two channel record' ability and this has just killed this for me.

So whats the next 'proper' twin tuner PVR available above this. Is it the Humax 9200 or the Inverto 7000?

To think Boots were doing a 10% off reduction on the Inverto and it was still in stock yesterday at £180 but I put off buying that so I could get this one from Aldi..........

I disagree, I think its still excellent value.

Still about 12 left in the Whitefield branch when I went at 11am.

Thing is, we asked my mother in law if father in law would like one for xmas. She just couldn't understand the benefits of a PVR. I think thats the problem with selling these things, joe public just doesn't get it until someone shows them the benefits.

Some do, some don't. When I was queing at 8.55 this morning I was stood between two older couples, both of whom had come to buy the PVR.

They both seemed to know all about dual tuners and time-shift recording. When I left the store with mine, the PVR's were going out the door at about one every thrity seconds and I would guess most of the customers were over 50. Of course many of them may have been buying them for younger relations who were at work.

  • Hi all!

Also got one of these this morning from Aldi in Bolton. 5th in queue at 8:30....loads left....they had at least 30 there.

At work now, so didn't have much time to try it out.

Some 'features' i did pick up on tho....

    1) I also had the ITV no-sound problem...also 'fixes' by jumping channels

    2) I had problems recording some channels....BBC1 + 2 worked perfectly, but I could not get ITV CH4 CH5 etc to record.....the unit said it was recording, but then trying to playback the file jumped me straight to 100% viewed, and nothin played back. I also noticed that the 'file size' was '1Mbs' for all the recording that didn't work, no matter how long the recording was. The BBC channel recordings had more resonable file sizes eg '20Mbs'....I'll try to figure it out when I get home at 8pm.

    3) I think what it means by 'recording two channels' is that, you can record on one tuner, then on the other tuner you can use the 'pause TV' function. So in effect you ARE recording from both tuners, but not in the sense that you'd want to.

How are you getting on with the HD Searcher2? I formatted mine twice, and both times it took only seconds.

Also, in the epg, why on earth is there no "find" feature. On the humax i can search for a program. IE i can type in neigbours, and it will show me every episode for the next week for me to highlight and record.

Agree with this - manually wading through pages of EPG to find programns to record is a bad user interface. The Fusion PVR doesn't have "find" command either, which is a big limitation. "Find" on my Humax has got to be the most used feature - time slip and all the other bells and whistles are nice to have but not as important as a good EPG front end.

Ok, perhaps i'm being a little harsh saying that £99.99 for this isn't good value. Afterall, there doesn't appear to be anything else on the market that has similar features for this price.

But i am annoyed that Aldi chose to subtly change the advert wording at some point yesterday night so deceiving people who had already read leaflets or the special offers page earlier in the week and decided to get one first thing this morning.

The great 'how many tuners' debate gets more confusing....

Anyone noticed the spec on page 34 of the manual?

    "Single tuner PVR DTT receiver"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does this mean there's a single tuner 'recorder' and another tuner for tv?
