Just got back with another PVR - same problem! ITV1 no sound when going through from 1 to 3 but okay going from channel 9 (for example) and then pressing 3 to get ITV1!!! Onto the helpline now - see what they say.

I have one too which exhibits the same 'problem'. As we have excellent strength here it is not a signal or antenna problem. This is most likely a software problem for which a 'fix' will probably be released in due course.

The recording quality seems very good.

Don't over react and take them back just yet. See if a fix comes out soon. Aldi are very good with returns even some months later and especially in this case if there is a problem with all of the units sold.

    Just my 2$.

If you can't start watching a programme from the start whilst you're still recording it, as some have suggested, what is the "timeshift" option that the blurb referred to?

    From the manual:

Timeshift can be used as follows:

There is an interruption while watching TV...Timeshift can be used to effectively pause the current TV event and continue watching after the interruption has been delt with.

    Press the Pause key
    The picture freezes
    <deal with the interruption>

Press the play key to resume watching the program.

I just tried it, it works.

    HTH.

I can't help you at the moment as I don't appear to have a hard disk - but just been reading the manual and there is a timeshift option. That seems to be for when you record something whilst you are watching it (you 'pause' it). I am not sure if you can use this feature for a program you have set to record using the programmer.... it could well be that you can do this.

The manual, whilst not being in perfect english, is not that comprehensive.

Yes - I agree. But last night I didn't know if it was a common problem or just my machine.... and didn't want to risk not getting a replacement if it was my machine. At least the ITV sound problem is overcomeable and you now know it is a bug. Having no hard disk is more of an issue! :-)

It's recording exactly the data which is transmitted to you. So it's exactly the same quality as what you'd usually watch on freeview.

When I try to format the hard disk in mine it asks for an unlock code. At least I have one!

Tried to reproduce the sound issue again, but it's still works fine on mine.

The unlock code is 0000. At some point there is a warning that you will lose all your data (either before or after the unlock code) and then the machine says 'Format hard disk' in the blue bar at the bottom of the screen. It has been like that for an hour now... so I don't know if it is still formatting. The manual says the PVR will restart when the formatting is complete. Mmmmm.

Indeed it is, provided there is no compression before the data is written to the hard disk.

However it is the way that the data, having been read from the hard disk, is processed, if at all, en-route to the SCART socket which can be an issue.

    Regards.

  • Haven't they changed the advert on the website?

I could swear it said "Can record 2 channels at the same time whilst watching one of them" as I checked after someone put up the details of the advert.

    *goes to get leaflet*

says "Can record 2 channels at the same time whilst watching one of them" on leaflet
