I don't think consistently good picture with consistently no sound is an aerial issue. If you have a signal strength problem, you will find problems occurring thoughout that multiplex - not missing sound on one service.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

You may find that the problem is a crap loop lead, The toppy's went through this problem and everyone who suffered it, had a crap loop lead, change that and you might be OK.
To check your tuners are ok though, disconnect the loop lead connect your aerial lead to Aeriel In 1 check your channels, then connect it to Aeriel In 2 and check your channels.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -

Thanks for all your suggestions. In answer to one of the questions - I would say it is definitely worth the money - but only if you get one that works. Having said that it does seem to work faultlessly on recording (though obviously on very short trial recording 3 programs) - just using it as a Freeview that I had problems.
I am taking mine back anyway - because if there is a fault with mine I doubt I will be able to get a replacement after this morning. If the replacement does the same then I can start looking at solutions.
I do not think it is signal strength because at one point I could hardly get any channels whilst it was recording a program - yet the program I recorded recorded fine! The sound problem is certainly not a signal strength problem as I pointed out - going to ITV1 using the > key from BBC1 to BBC2 to ITV1 resulted in no sound on ITV1 - but going directly to ITV1 using the '3' button gave me ITV1 with sound! I didn't spend too much time looking at picture qualilty but I did think it was a bit 'pixelated' on quick moving scenes.
I presume you have to take the machine apart to get to the loop lead!0 -

Yeah it is a strange one but this happened to me when my Dad purchased a freeview stb... he had clear line of sight to either of two transmitters from his home... Dover and Blue Bell hill but depending on where the aerial pointed we would get some channels but not others or images and no sound or sound and no images....
In the end he took the plunge and brought a high gain aerial from B&Q - I put this up in his loft pointing to Blue Bell Hill and all channels were fine then.0 -
Second in the queue, they had about 30 boxes, so I got 2. Woohoo, goodbye £36 a month Sky on Christmas Eve, happy Christmas to us. All very civilized - first time I've been after a bargain - have to cut my teeth on Lidl sometime.

1st in queue. just need to find time to install it later. Got 2 of them. My mum in another Aldi bought 3!0

Just got one of these - not had a chance to even open the box yet never mind set it up!
Couple of things tho....
1. It can only record 1 channel at a time, not 2. (Record one, watch one)
2. There were (at a guess) at least 100 at the Luton store this morning so if you can't get to your local early then it might still be worth a try.
I um'ed and ah'ed in the shop but in the end I thought I'd try it as we need a new freeview box in the new year anyway (we have an old Ondigital box!) and that would cost around £40...so £60 for a 2nd tuner and a PVR seemd like a pretty good deal.0 -
Just got back with another PVR - same problem! ITV1 no sound when going through from 1 to 3 but okay going from channel 9 (for example) and then pressing 3 to get ITV1!!! Onto the helpline now - see what they say.
They didn't even look at the machine - just got me out of the way as quickly as possible!0 -
This has to be one or the growth areas in 2006, I am sure we would all like a Freeview dual recorder with:
- an 80GB+ (or bigger) hard drive
- a built in, dual format, DVD recorder
- a USB socket for transfer to PC
- an ethernet socket
Now when that beast comes along it may be quite a long queue and a wake up call to Sky.
I have been with Sky+ for 3 years, it is the best bit of kit in the home! I would be interested in any opinions / comparisons in performance, quality with the Aldi unit today.0
