Ummm... try reading the very first posting in this thread!
And it's also been pointed out that it's actually cheaper to make one with a digital than an analogue tuner. You're going to have to do some more homework if you want to know why :snow_laugTime is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
I'm interested in getting one of these and will be queuing in the morning. Can anyone tell me if Aldi now take Credit Cards?0

According to the leaflet NO, just bank cards. There was a post a while ago that said they and Lidl had started, the Lidl acceptance seems to be only in Scotland, maybe the Aldi one was a regional trial too. Dont bank on it tho.:snow_grin

Those that are interested in PVR's the Topfield TF5800 is a very nice duel tuner, with a facility built in that lets (those that know how to) write programs (TAP's) that improves how the Topfield works, as far as I am aware there is no other PVR that is as flexible as this.
There are many programs (called TAP's) available for download, There have been issues/bugs with PVR's released here in the UK but the Topfield engineers seem to be on top of most of them.
I have the Toppy myself and after checking out all the others available at the time, the Toppy came up trumps, I have had it for over 6 months now and it has to be the best new toy I have purchased.
You will have to pay a substantial price difference for the Toppy (Prices are about £230 up-wards) but the current users at the Toppy Users Forum have been making changes via TAP's to improve the Toppy by leaps and bounds, the Toppy as it stands now could be considered the Rolls Royce of PVR's! maybe there are other just waiting to be released that could knock the toppy off the No1 spot, but even so, if you want a PVR that is very flexible then the Toppy is your only choice, once you learn how to use it and the many TAP's available for it then I am sure you will not be disappointed in paying those extra few ££££'s for a PVR that works the way you want it to work.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -

Given the amount of discussion on this item I would predict that there won't be many (any) left half an hour after they open the doors on Thursday.
Half an hour, that's optimistic. Lets hope they have more stock than Lidl did on Monday of the analogue DVD/HD recorder, 3 per store :rolleyes:ac's lovechild0 -

The only thing more flexible is a PC (living-room friendly if necessary!) running something like Linux and MythTV, which is entirely open source, so you and the developers out there are not limited to tweaking what Topfield deign that you can tweak.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -

Even neater is something like a Hauppauge MVP (tiny little thing) with ethernet and scart - with something like GBPVR running on a pc elsewhere. (not open source, but plugin api is available).0 -

i mean the lidl 160gb dvd with hard drive, not the aldi one.0 -
I have just got home with one of these PVRs and am setting it up now. Can confirm it is 7 day EPG. Comes with Scart lead. Model PVR101. Connections are Aerial (in and out), Audio in/out, video in/out, coaxial audio out, VCR SCART (CVBS, Audio), TV SCART (CVBS, RGB, Audio)...loop through of RF signals.
If anyone wants any more details I'll try to look them up in the manual.
Oh..and you can buy a 2 year extended warranty for £20 - but not sure if that is 2 extra years or one extra year.
Edit : Easy to set up and very quiet when recording (assuming it is actually recording!).0 -
C'mon Searcher 2, how did you manage that? Do you work at Aldi? if so, how many per store please?ac's lovechild0
