TV LCD/PLASMA I can't decide

Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

Currys have the best deals on TVs at the moment, and you can have a look before you buy.
We bought our panasonic 42" Plasma with freesat and we havent been disapointed. The picture quality alone is outstanding, but when broadcast in HD it is phenomenal. ( dont forget tho, picture quality relies on ur aerial reception, unless u have cable/sky ) Freesat only works with a sky dish. ( i think )
I would highly recommend this TV and i already have, the mother in law has bought 1 too, £250 quid cheaper . ouch...lol
Hope this review helps, you only get what you pay for.0 -

It doesn't have to be a Sky dish, if you don't have a sky dish already you can get a dish installed just for Freesat. It's probably the same as a Sky one to be honest but it does mean if you haven't got or had Sky you can still get Freesat. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
i wasnt sure on that bit, i was just asked if we had a sky dish.
Thanx0 -
Walk out the back of Castle Court in Belfast, and you will see Northern Ireland's only Richer Sounds. Bit of a trek for you. They're a good lot, very keen with decent (not necessarily web-beating prices. Often stuff that's been replaced by newer models, and just remember that they're trying to sell stuff, not give you excellent, impartial advice.
£500-£700 would prob get you a 1080p 40inch LCDTV, or a 1080p 37 LCDTV by a better brand. HD Ready (which really means at least 720 vertical pixes, plus at least 1 HDMI port). I don't beleive anyone would get away with selling a non HD ready flatscreen these days.
I think the best advice would be to have a look around some online stores on the net, get yourself some information then goto Currys (shudder) and try to get them to match the best price you've found. And come back here for advice of course!
my two small experiences of richer sounds are both bad. last week i went to their shop for the first time. it was tiny and mainly full of lg tvs. the second was a phonecall last night. i asked if they had the sony tv i am after in stock. they didnt have it in stock and had no idea if or when they would have it in stock. they then proceeded to try and get me to buy a lesser model like lg. they told me stuff like people saying sony and panasonic are the best is just brand snobbery and not true. they also said that a full hd tv can often have a worse picture than a 720 tv. after 5 minutes of a call that was at my expense i managed to get rid of them. so people talk about the likes of currys talking rubbish it seems richer sounds do exactly the same. they suggested calling again in two weeks time to see if they have the tv in stock. i am not sure its worth the bother.
you say try and get currys to price match online prices. theres surely no chance of them doing that is there? when shops do price match it is usually only stores in the local area and the shop has to have the tv in stock. that is stupid because you may have gone there first and only have not bought there because they didnt have the tv in stock. you would then just be in the second shop asking them to price match to give them a chance of a sale and you a chance of having your tv on that day. otherwise you would just wait until the cheaper shop had stock.0 -
I bought a Samsung 42inch LCD and when I purchased it from Currys the man in the shop told me that LCD's are better as you cannot fix the screens on Plasma's - if they break thats it, you need a new telly.
The only thing he warned me about with the LCD that if you're watching a film dont pause it for too long as the image will burn into the screen. 5-10 mins is ok but I wouldnt do it for any longer than 15 just to be safe.
Also just wanted to say, you'd be better waiting til after christmas as they will be loads cheaper. Thats what I done. Maybe you could get a big box and put a note in it saying 'I.O.U a TV' or whatever and then go out the next day when all the sales start and pick one.
Good luck xxxXx0 -
LCD's don't suffer burn from static images, but plasmas can over a long period of time.0

i'm like a big kid. its so hard waiting for the sales. i believe alot of sales start online late on xmas eve so i will be online trying to find the right price then. knowing my luck the incompetent so'n'so's will still not have any in stock.0 -

As youve found, theyre NOT good for advice (But then id say NO shop is - they sell you what they want YOU to buy)
Sonys and Pans generally hammer LGs for quality (especially longevity). 720 can easily be better than full 1080 screens. The Pioneer 42" plasma is still regarded as the worlds best 42" and its only 720 (well, 756 ish)
As for items in stock. Richer sounds can pull up on the computer and INSTANTLY tell you if the item in question is in ANY other of its shops, or in their main warehouse. If in the warehouse, they should be able to phone them up and arrange a delivery to YOUR store as soon as possible.:idea:0
