I've got a question for any of you techie people. I am considering buy a new Tv for my husband for Xmas don't know what one to get. Plasma/Hd Ready/LCD I'm lost
. We currently have a 30" wide screen but we want bigger. I really have no idea, i've heard people say there a difference in the picture quality you get with either LCD or Plasma but I'm not sure, is HD Ready worth the extra money, are all TV's digital ready or how do I know.
HELP !!!!!!!
Thanks in advance and shhhhhh he doesn't know yet

I'm no techie and have the same question.
One answer is to go to Richer Sounds - in my opinion they are the only people seling these type of good who actually know what they are talking about and can explain in English!! No I don't work for them. But I have bought all my home entertainment goods from them over the last 10 years."The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him no good."(Samuel Johnson 1709-1784)
Lots of years in financial services, still learning!0 -
Really depends how big and how much your willing to spend?
other factor is the connections needed (id recommened 3 hdmis ~ as nearly everything will be connected this way in the future)
This Panasonic 37" Plasma is VERY hard to beat for the money ~

And no disrespect Dave, but the Richer Sounds guys in Preston were talking sh*te to me (And my grandfather). Id buy anything off them as theyre so cheap, I just wouldnt EVER take their advice.:idea:0 -
The other alternative, of course, is to sign up with AVForums, and post your questions on a dedicated forum. Gives you access to real people using the equipment, so generally good advice.0

I would think a new Tv barging in the front door might need to be a joint decision from you both, its a life committment and not just for xmas.0

My understanding is that the picture quality of LCD and Plasma are now pretty much the same (depending on model etc) but the Plasma is probably better in artificial light and the lcd is probably better during daylight.
Plasma's tend to use considerably more power. Both should be HD ready.
If you use freeview then you will want one with a built in digital tuner to take the place of the digibox.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-42XV555-DB-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B0017LTI5E/ref=dp_cp_ob_ce_title_1/026-1153538-9366861?ie=UTF8&qid=1224022481&sr=8-16
Something like this?I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

Are LCD screens a nightmare with young kids for damage?0

One answer is to go to Richer Sounds - I Live in Northern Ireland and I haven't heard of these people before guess we don't have any shops
Really depends how big and how much your willing to spend? - probably between £500 and £700 and size wise we have an alcove which should accomodate up to a 47" I guess
The other alternative, of course, is to sign up with AVForums, - will give this a go
I would think a new Tv barging in the front door might need to be a joint decision from you both, its a life committment and not just for xmas. - I would agree but he know less about tv's than me it's all about size for him ( typical man) as this is our first Christmas being married I would like to surprise him, honestly he used to it I am the financial boss in the house and I do all the buying hes happy with that so far after 10 years together. He has mentioned that he wold like to replace the portable in our bedroom with the 30" we have down stairs I keep telling him we can't afford it but |I am hopefully due to receive a windfall before Xmas, We have discussed the items we what to purchase for the house and the order w e want to do it in a leather suite is no 1 ( should be getting that first when/if I get the windfall ) and then a tv
Plasma is probably better in artificial light and the lcd is probably better during daylight. - the room we would be putting it in has lots of trees infront of the window so not much natural light - interesting though I didn't know this - this is the kind of information which is useful making my decision thanks
Are LCD screens a nightmare with young kids for damage? - we have a four year old who is quite good at doing what we ask but we plan to have another baby next year so this is an interesting question ??? AnyoneBusy mum of 3, so if my posts don't make sense or ask a silly question be patient:rotfl:0 -
Youll never get a decent 47" tv for even 700 quid. It will have ALL sorts of 'screen problems' (possibles are ~ smearing, flickering, ghosting etc).
You should be able to get a fairly decent 40 or 42" screen though
How far away will you both be sitting from the screen?:idea:0 -
And no disrespect Dave, but the Richer Sounds guys in Preston were talking sh*te to me (And my grandfather). Id buy anything off them as theyre so cheap, I just wouldnt EVER take their advice.
Yes. If you know what you want and Richer Sounds have it, then great. If not, they'll simply try to push whatever they've got the biggest stockpile of at the time, which may not necessarily be the best thing.
And yes, we could really do with knowing how big your room is and how far away from it you'll be sitting.0 -
LCD is more prone to damage cause it aint got a glass front. Depends on your kids thou-This would not be covered by any insurance(waits to be contradicted)0
