Lets do a quick poll! Hands up if you've ever died from eating reheated rice. :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I cook rice and pasta and cool it, and I am told by "the experts" that its safe for up to 4 days after cooking, and thats what I do. I cook it, refresh immediately (run under cold water so it a) cools to go in fridge and b) lasts longer (I refresh all veg too) and then its fine for up to 4 days as far as I know / am led to believe. I never froze pasta or rice, so can't comment on that, if it isnt eaten before day 4, the hens get it!

Which "experts" told you it was safe to keep cooked rice for up to 4 days? I don't heat rice again because of warnings by the health and safety crew so I am interested in who told you to keep it that long and if you keep it for up to 4 days for your private consumption or do you use the same principle for paying customers in your restaurant.

I have a pragmatic attitude to storing food in that I use my common sense when it comes to date stamps, chilling etc. However there are foods I never mess around with...shellfish, offal, sausages, raw chicken and rice being some of them. Badly stored rice has a whole different set of toxins to anything else and these aren't the sort of thing you at home can detect by just sniffing or tasting most of the time. Also, I know we're about moneysaving but in all reason, how expensive is a bag of rice when all is said and done? Chuck it out if in doubt.

Well just to let everyone know. I reheated the rice from frozen in the microwave for 5 mins on full power. It was steaming and burning hot. So far no one in the family has had any nasty reaction to it. Thinking about it the supermarkets sell frozen rice so I guess it can't be all bad can it.

Thanks for everyone's point of view, its definitely one of those some do some don't kind of things.

Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning

    Hi chuzzle,

As you have now eaten the rice I've added your thread to the main reheating rice thread to keep the replies together.
