Reheating rice

Options
Can anyone clarify for me as to whether it IS safe to reheat rice that has been in the fridge overnight?

I have googled and found conflicting arguments, but if any of the regulars have done it on here and have lived to tell the tale, then that's OK with me :D

I reheat my rice all the time! Have left it up to five days in the fridge and lived to tell the tale. :D

  • Me too, always reheat my rice, even from the chinese takeaway if I have been lucky enough to have it!

I make sure it is piping hot of course, but that is the only proviso I would make!

I reheat rice but you must be careful about storage. In your case it is a yes as you put it in the fridge.

absolutely fine and even 'finer' if you take it out the fridge and stick it in a dish along with some pouring cream, sultanas, pinch of nutmeg and sugar if you have a sweet tooth and then bung it in the oven (i put it on about gas mark 5 but i really dont know what it should be lol) and leave it about 30 mins - keep checking it but once all the creams soaked into the rice - its ready to scoff - yummmmmmmmmmmm :)
    'Normal' is a dryer setting.

Most of the advice you see is aimed at catering businesses, in that I have always been told by EHOs that rice is 'high-risk' and we should avoid reheating it or using it cold (in salads etc). So, professionally it's something I don't do, as it's a risk I'm not willing to take in my work (I've worked as a chef and in bakeries/delis for longer than I care to remember lol).

Personally though I do reheat rice at home. The 'safest' way to store it is to make sure it cools as fast as possible, so make sure it's not in a big lump but rather spread out in a dish or bowl. It's important to make sure that it doesn't sit around steaming either - it needs to be either hot enough to eat or fridged asap. I've done this a lot and I've never had a problem, really the issues come when you've got massive quantities of rice that are left to cool slowly, or are left 'warm' for long periods, or are kept for days and days. My 'personal' rule is that I'll only reheat it the day after, I won't keep it longer than that, and I never eat it 'cold' (but that's a 'taste' thing, I hate cold rice lol).

I think the danger is with rice that is kept warm for prolonged periods.

I reheat it all the time and nobody's been any the worse for it.

I love your idea of making it into a rice pud Kiwifruit:T
