I got an email from gap at 15:37, but only noticed it at 16:00, so posted it on the Alerts thread straight away - I know a lot of you have been waiting for these!

There were a couple very local to me but I've just never fancied doing them, although I did almost marry a bookie once.........................!

It's probably just my system being slow, Brryssn! We're on virgin/ntl, and hubby's employer is also with virgin/ntl. When we exchange emails while he's at work, there are many many times when they take hours to arrive! Same system - and he's only 15 minutes up the road!

I've just looked closer at the Gap email, and the header says it was sent at 16:01 but my system didn't receive it until 16:33.

I didn't get any of the jobs anyway - there was only one 'local' to me and it's so 'local' I've never heard of the place! I was hoping for one in a town I know!

There are 2 really close to me but I haven't then nerve to do one having never placed a bet or gambled ever, I got as far as taking the test then bottled it, been looking at them all afternoon, but decided against as I know nothing about football either and I have to ask a question!
  • Can I just second Sinders in thanking blindman. It was a marvellous message and when I have enough time to apply, I will be doing so. Thanks again xx

I managed to get 6 bookies jobs with GAP - there were loads more I could have done but as I did them in October (!) I couldn't do them again now and I can only do 6 and not 10 as last time. Anyway I will read through the assignment details to see what the scenario is this time but I'm going to feel a bit of a pleb putting a couple of pounds down - but hey you never know - I could win again - fingers crossed :j

Do you mind me asking Hollypear, but as we are in the same area, I have found since joining GFK in the summer that I only have a job or 2 showing at anyone time and generally there is nothing unless I receive an email. Do you find quiet a few jobs with them? Is it perhaps because you have been with them longer?

    TIA
I have a file for each company Tizzy and keep all the emails in them. GfK I notice have really dropped off recently as I have only had 2 emails since mid December saying new assignments have been added.

Whereas before say banks maybe a load would go up now it is one at a time. I did a government office one and a bank the other day. An email came in today with 1 more bank.

Can you PM me or give a hint where you are and if I can ever help you I will.

Oi since your such great pals with them...eh have they sent you my mislaid reimbursement..for a pizza and a bottle of ginger. They said I hadn't to pick pineapple topping this one must have had diamond topping. Or gold dust sprinkled on it.

PS Everyone remember I was getting fed up with hubby still moaning about his broken ribs. I thought ..ach it is a man thing. No pain threshold. Last weekend he got taken back into hospital with pain and shortness of breath. Turns out the jaggy bits of ribs were pressing on his lungs. Then the discharge letter revealed he has 7 !!!!!broken ribs. So nice of them to tell us in the 1st place. They had just kind of mumbled he had 3 or 4 broken or cracked ribs.

PS Anyone know how to sue your council.:rotfl:

They are really easy - why not have a wander into one, to see what it's like (some can be a bit grotty) and see if that builds your confidence. Your question can be something really simple like, what are the odds on Middlesbrough winning the FA Cup? (and they'll just say "oh easy - it's 100-1" ha ha!) Mind you, do pick a team that are still in it! Or pick someone in the premiership and say what are the odds on them being relegated or something.

There's still around 7 around me untouched. I just dont feel too confident. Maybe it is a Glasgow thing but I don't know any females who go to bookies and I am scared I would stick out like a sore thumb.

Josie can you bet on something like who is going to win the CL or FA cup. Pity they didn't let us bet on the Aussie Open.

  • Ok, is anyone else having trouble with Gapbuster's site? I try to search for the bookies assignment in Bath by location, select Bath and the only job that comes up is a totally different assignment which I'm already signed up for. I try searching by client, select the one I want, select the suburb I want, click go and it takes me back to select client! So on the off change, since I'm going home to Scarborough for two weeks, I think, I'll see if they've got anything there. Find Scarborough in location, click on it, get the select client screen but there's no clients in the box! It's really starting to wind me up now.

Hollypear I am in Glasgow too!

As for the bookies with your fav company GYP, I find them really easy.
All you have to do (normally - though I can't check on these assignments yet as the paperwork won't be available till February) is select any football match and then pick a result with only 1 ending E.G say it was the old firm playing so you could pick -
Celtic to win for your £3
    or
Rangers win 2-1 for you £3

Then for your question you could ask what the current odds are on your bet or what would you get if you have got the correct result. Or even if you know a players name ask what are the odds if JOHN JONES was the first goal scorer. It doesn't need to be a question about your own bet, just a football related one.
Then make a note if they ask for the bookies loyalty card and if they mentio any other types of bet, though you don't have to take them, just make a mental note what was offered.

From then it is pretty much a standard MS as you are checking for the cleanliness of the interior and exterior and using the toilet (a lot of the female toilets are locked, so staff give you a key and they are usually very clean, as it tends to be the staff toilet too). Your also making sure the football section is stocked with at least 1 coupon and that the staff are in uniform (remembering a description). Finally make sure you see the betting rules and the think 21 posters (these are big posters, often found near the counters or behind them)

The bookies are a good visit normally and don't feel as though they will know am a MS'er as it's only a £3 bet, you will find people making 50p bets etc.
The time in the shop goes quick as you can look about while looking at the race boards or look as though you are watching the races that are on.

Another plus is if your result is correct then you get back the cost of the bet and your winnings, so it can be a good fee, on top of the GYP fee and reimbusment.

My best bookie was during the European cup and I went for a team that looked as though they wouldn't win and I only put it on in 1 shop out of the 10 as I spread the bets around football teams and I won £150 + £3 (bet) = £153 then I got my fee from gap along with the reimbusment for the bet, so that was a total of £161 - not bad for a 15 minutes visit! :D :rotfl:

ghostmadlittlemiss have you checked in case the area you want are coming up as localities instead of the actually city, this often happens with the bookies!

RE - the bookies I am a female and although you may no think females do go in and out of the bookies too.
