Nope, more like £8k Id think at the very least for a small place. We had a brickie do a small garden wall about 4 bricks high for us in the summer - that came to £400 (wihtout materials) and he was doing it in just a few spare hours. When you build a house walls, the brickwork goes down into the foundations by the way. Just to build a chimney would cost you several thousand.
When I said "house" I was talking the shell, not the roof, the electrics, plumbing, drainage, guttering, windows, doors, floors, joists, kitchen, bathroom, tiles, garage, or the hundreds of other things to do.0 -

Ok... I presume the foundations were done by another gang in advance, in that £800.
I'll get back to you on this thread about the other stuff - especially £8,000 estimate shell price for labour (not including materials)
You may well be right.0 -
Think about it dopester, say you wanted a brickie to build you a little single garage - how much do you think that would cost?0

how long before 100% mortgages are back?
What's wrong with this bloke? It's the unsustainable rises in house prices, with people incurring more and more debt, that caused this financial crisis in the first place! If the whole speculative property thing resumes, won't we just get an even bigger crash before very long?
He should be thinking of inventive ways of building up Britain's manufacturing industry, not trying to rely on the financial institutions, who have proved themselves utterly unworthy and untrustworthy, to generate wealth through getting people to take on even more debt to add to the problem.
Does he have a vested interest in property or something?0 -

Hmm. Some how, I disagree with Mr Brown because I believe affordability is out of whack. If he really wants people to be buying houses, then he wants those people to lead a life of debt.0 -

That's all very nasty and unnecessary....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I agree with the broad point of this, but def. not the way you make it.scousethife wrote: »andys15
