I think he means shortage of quality houses. People wanting to move out of council houses, people wanting to move out of houses which were meant to be temporary houses after ww11. Part of me agrees with high house prices, it creates ambition and makes people work harder(overtime, 2 jobs, getting better grades at school).

Well if thats the case, Broon would want to go and have a look at the latest stuff that's being built, 'Quality', isn't the first word that comes to mind.

KK - but that price still sounds like something from the old ultimate boom world.

It can and will be done much more cheaply.

Wait till land values fall dramatically, and builders and tradesmen are seeking work...

Unemployment and pay-cuts in most sectors throughout the wider economy as well.

I'm afraid you are living in cloud cuckoo land if you think you can get the brickwork laid for a 3 bed house for £800

So your premise is that house prices are likely to rise at some point in the near future, based on your 'reasoning' that 100% mortgages will be back soon? If you have any links that point to this remarkable assertion I am sure we would love to see them.

I think we have another 25% of falls yet to come over the next couple of years, and there will be no return to HPI madness for at least ten years. I don't need any links for this view because it is the accepted mainstream knowledge now, rather than wishful thinking.

You mean like house prices only ever go up (last years accepted mainstream)?
'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher

i never said house prices are set to rise, but if that is the conseqence of 100 per cent mortgages then so be it.

Gordon Brown has stated that mortgage appovals need to be increased. Today he has just invested more in banks. Due to the fical nature of people(not including MSE), he knows that he can effect the spending moods of the population. Today has been called momentus monday, and it can have an effect on people. What will be the headlines in tomorrow papers. The media can now a days influence people. Gordon Brown knows this and has used quotes today to play on this.
