Meeting at school re IEP tomorrow, and first ed asst appt in early November. He is young still (yr 1) but very aware he is different though we all try to treat him as any other small boy.
Any words of wisdom? Thankfully this has been noticed quickly and the school are being very supportive. But the whole thing is a bit scary. I'm also a bit stumped over how much to say to DS - he knows a special teacher is going to help his teacher and he's OK with that, does he need to know more yet?

Dyslexia cannot be accurately diagnosed until the child is about 7, dyslexic traits can easily be developmental 'delays' until then.
Do a search for all the 'cool' people that have dyslexia.. it is a problem to work WITH rather than a problem to SOLVE.. you don't have to make it better you have to adapt.. and can claim DLA so he can have special pens and such like to make it easier for him to do 'work'.. mine has coloured acetates to help with his reading, special pens, left handed rulers and scissors and other things which might seem silly to anyone else but are a life saver for him.
Don't worry about any of it until you have an accurate diagnosis.. it is a waste of emotion.. until you know what you are dealing with.. it may just be he needs a few extra lessons and a little extra input during lessons.. at least they have picked something up early and can make a sound judgement and take appropriate action and get things sorted for him.. very vigilant of the schoolLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Hi all
Welcome to Gryfon and Cardiff .
I've been trying for ages to get on:mad:  my stupid computer was playing up.
Since my last post i have
Cooked tea
Lit the fire
S & S kitchen sink
Washed up
Bathed & put Ds2 to bed
He was really cute this evening, he was pretending to make me a birthday cake. He had a bowl and spoon and was mixing it, he was saying i need eggs and butter and sugar. Then he said be my bowl licker please, so i had to pretend to lick the bowl. Then he put it in the cupboard to cook. When it had cooked he put it on the fire guard to cool. then he decorated it and put candles on it ( all pretend ). He then sang Happy Birthday you to Mummy. Bless him.
I was going to do a HHI but i don't think i can be bothered. I do have to put the bins out though. Actually i'm going to have to do some ironing as Ds1 hasn't got any uniform for tomorrow:rolleyes: .0 -
I have only done a couple of things off the list tonight but at least I will have less to do at the weekend!!
Going on a trip with my class next week to a local orchard / farm / nursery. We are walking through the orchards, visiting the milking parlour and meeting the cows in the morning, then in the afternoon the children cook with the fruit from the orchards and get to take their cooking home with them! Think I am more excited than them as it sounds great fun
