I couldn't resist this book either, it's just so lovely and red and Christmassy!

After deciding I definitely wasn't going to make a Christmas cake this year because not all of us eat it (including me), my 10 year old daughter decided to make the 'traditional' one from the new book - it's the one that is shown in three different 'sizes' and has a lot of pecans in it. Anyway, I usually use a Delia cake recipe and I always always have to cook it for ages longer than it says - well, Nigella's one was cooked for the stipulated time and it looks great, smells nice too! Mind you, that's hardly surprising as it had loads of alcohol in it. Just have to keep the daughter away from the royal icing for a bit longer :-))))

  • I just wanted to say that I got my Nigella Christmas book signed by her today in Borders in Ellesmere Port as she was doing a book signing there. I was really surprised because she is TINY!- really petite - obviously she has big bosoms but the rest of her is really petite - I thought she was at least 5ft 5 or more but she is really small. I have to say that she is every bit as attractive as she looks on the telly though - she was only dressed casually and didn't have lots of make up on but her skin was flawless and she was really friendly and chatty. She also looked really young and didn't appear to have had botox or similar (I look at these things because I'm that shallow;) )- she is a year older than me (she's 48) and she only looked mid-thirties. I ama going to try the gingerbread stuffing at the weekend and if it is nice I will do it for Christmas. Has anyone already tried it?

  • Hi all
I was given a copy of Nigella's Christmas book for my birthday last week and today I made the Cranberry and White Chocolate Cookies. Although they turned out ok and tasted good, I though that they would be more chewy , like a lot of cookies are but they were more hard and crumbly like a biscuit.
Did i bake them too long? is there anything i can do to make them a bit chewier, as i want to make a couple more batches later on this week to give away as presents.

Also I added a bit more mixed spice, and zest of an orange to make them even more christmasesy and this worked well.

    thanks for any advice

  • Hi!
I don't have the book, but I wrote a recipe down from a friends for white choc/pecan/cranberry cookies with oats in. Is this the one???????

If so, mine always come out chewy. I would say don't cook them so long - just until light golden brown. Mine actually often fall apart..... not a problem as then you can feel better by eating 10 small cookie pieces, but at least you resisted eating a whole one!

I just had a quick google - there seem to be 2 recipes. The above is the one I made, maybe different from yours? (sorry, can only find Americanized measurements)

In the book she actually jokes that these cookies are healthy cos they have oats in. Well I hope she is, as they have a whole pack of butter in for starters!
  • Try cooking them at a lower temperature. I often find cookies are vastly improved by doing this, and it's definitely a solution for too-hard cookies :-)
  • Hi all,
I saw Nigella's Christmas programme last night and thought her Girdle-buster thingy looked amazing....I can't find the recipe on Google anywhere so am wondering if anyone here has it? Don't have the quantities required.

Thanks in advance. (Although if I wore a girdle it probably wouldn't thank you :-)

I think I may have a try to - looked lush - thought I wasn't paying attention and missed the recipe - but she didn't do it on the prog - marketing ploy for her book?? - leave us salivating!
