  • I think they ring local dealers, or have a few they call regular for a value, and work on auction/disposal prices+values

Parkers guide says between £2,600 and £2,900 car needed for work do you think they will let us keep it, autotrader states more like £3,500 for same car forsale

It really depends on your OR Queen.
My car was valued at approx £300.00 and they were going to take that.
I was told my family could buy it back at a small price.
In the end I appealed & the OR ok'd for me to keep the car.
So what I am saying is in some cases they will 'seize' a 300.00 car & leave a 2,000 car....who knows.

Even if its needed for work, my OH is a plumber and needs a car to get to and from work, no public transport

I know it's not very reassuring, but it really is impossible for us to say. The fact is, they may say that yes you need a vehicle, but that one is too expensive so we'll take it off you and give you £500 to buy a new one. Or they may say 'yep fine, keep it' or simply take it away. You won't know until it happens, and none of us can tell you any differently. Sorry :(

I changed my car into my wives name two months before going BR, I did not hide the fact and put the car on my BR forms.

When I had my interview I told the OR I did this to stop debt collectors and bailiffs trying to take the car and he had no issues and said well it is not an asset as it is in my wife's name. Think he was happy that I had not tried to con him and the reason was true.

I have since had the letter through telling me they have no interest in the car.

Also with the value I did take it to some dealers who were a lot lower than parkers and the OR agreed that this was a better price in the current climate. It cost the OR money to have the car lifted and valued properly and the auctioned, So a car valued at £2500 in parker will probably only put a max of £1250 back into your BR estate,

But OR all view things slightly differently

so its a gamble then really as to whether we would be able to keep our current car I am sure they would have to replace this with another one as my OH needs this for work
