Wow! So many pages today - I'll have to go back and read through. Just ARGGGGHHHing as I have to bring in a FMU sample so the surgery can test it to verify pregnancy - can't I just bring in the 6 tests I already took over the last week?:rotfl: Then I have to wait a few days for the test result. Then I have to wait for an appointment with the GP. Then he refers me to the midwife. I miss my surgery in Devon where they took your word for it that you were smart enough to read a pregnancy test that said "pregnant" or "not pregnant" and just had the midwife call you back right away - no fussing about with going in to the GP just for him to say "uh yeah, you're pregnant." grrrrrrr what a colossal waste of my time - dragging me and my son down to the surgery 3 times in the freezing cold (once to pick up the paperwork and the "sample cup", once to leave the test, and another to see the GP) before I can speak to the midwife. And I have to do it over the next week or so, or I won't get things done in time to arrange the nuchal scan.

    Ok. sorry. rant over.....

FG: I was told I'll be refferred to an aneasthatist this time too, new maternity guidlines bought in within the last 3 years apparently... I personally don't plan on having any aneasthetic of any kind if I can help it so not to fussed, if they want to waste their time...

I had a bmi of about 41/42 with DD and had a water birth...

What they didn't tell you was it's your body, your choice... You could set up a giant water pool in your front room and they would have to supply you with a midwife or 2... I said earlier about consultants, they really are there to give you worst case scenarios and encourage as much clinical intervention as possible... Do your own research hun and work out for yourself what you want... xx

I saw the Midwife first, and I joked about how I didn't want her to shout at me. After I saw the Doc, the MW asked if she'd been nice. Supposedly she can be a bit mean with fat ladies, so I'm hoping that that was why she was so negative about everything.

One good thing I forgot, she read up on the medication I was on, and neither are shown to be a risk in pregnancy, so hopefully that won't have caused any problems.

Just feel really upset by the whole thing. I've tried not being unrealistic about the pregnancy and birth, but she made it sound quite horrific and like its very likely it'll all go wrong :(

I feel like I live at that hospital!

Appointment went okay. Got to hear heartbeat which is good.

    Not so good news:
    - I'm too fat for a home birth
    - I'm too fat for a water birth
    - I'm so fat I've got to see the anaesthetist because epidural and pethidine might not work
    - I'm at high risk of several complications, including severe tearing and heaving bleeding
    - I'm at high risk for needing a ceaserian, because I'm so fat my womb might not work
    - I've had protein in the last three urine samples
    - My BP is borderline

So, got to go back to see anaesthetist, have a diabetes test and have another scan at 34 weeks.

I declined the offer to see a dietician, but I'm not supposed to gain any weight for the remainder of my pregnancy. I'm supposed to start exercising, but with the SPD that seems impossible.

    Hi feelinggood,

What an awful appointment. I hope you are feeling ok after all of that.

After such an appointment, I'm not suprised your BP is up. Mine would be!

Firstly, for the diabetes test, they seem to be testing randomly at the moment. I was tested in both previous pregnancies, & this time no-one has even bothered to mention it. It's just another appointment, but not too hard, so don't worry about this one. They make you drink a shedload of lucozade, & take a blood sample before & after. It helps if you take in a straw and a flask containing ice cubes, as it's much much better ice cold. Take a good book too whilst you wait fo the second test.

As for not gaining weight, I think, normally if you are overweight in pregnancy, you don't gain anyway. I lose weight in pregnancy, without any exercising...it's the going off most foods, no drinking, & lots of morning/afternoon/evening sickness that does it!

Finally, whilst I have no idea what your weight/height or bmi is, if you really want a home birth, they have no right to deny you this. They can & will tell you all the possible problems, & try to put you off, but the Homebirth website can help you put your side of the argument across.

Hi Triggles, how annoying are these surgeries! We've got cancer patients having to buy their own meds coz nhs won't pay and then these surgeries wasting time and money on a preg test, I mean seriously when was the last time they had someone tell them they were preg and they were wrong grrr
Also at my old surgery they did free in-house preg testing so even if they did confirm it it took 1 min while you were there.

I lose weight in pregnancy, without any exercising...it's the going off most foods, no drinking, & lots of morning/afternoon/evening sickness that does it! I wish this was true in my case... I'm 4-6lb up already! Mind you, my weight is always up and down by pounds at a time...

Finally, whilst I have no idea what your weight/height or bmi is, if you really want a home birth, they have no right to deny you this. They can & will tell you all the possible problems, & try to put you off, but the Homebirth website can help you put your side of the argument across.

I completely agree with this last sentence... remember what I said earlier about my consultant, she basically told me my baby would die if I didn't do what they said and tbh, I think she only said this to get a reaction from me because as she had her big rant at me about my bmi and the size of my first baby I didn't rise to it, I smiled and nodded (and internally gave her the finger)

Really don't take what she said as gospel, you have the same choices as every other pregnant woman!
