I was tested for that, even though I was tested last time and when I had my tonsils out.
I didnt find out my results until my antenal appointment which I booked for 17 weeks, everything was fine, 'm sure of there was something up they would contact you immediately x
No it's not sickle cell, it's a mad name but I can't remember it and I'm sure the midwife said it wasn't a national thing, only certain hospitals are testing for it.
That's what I thought, if there was a problem they would contact me, hopefully that's the case xxTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Got it, it's Thalassaemia. (Just had to Google it) Got it wrong about where decendents are from, doh!
Thalassaemia is another blood disorder that is caused by abnormal genes. The pattern of inheritance is exactly the same as for sickle cell so your baby needs to have received an abnormal gene from both you and your partner for him to have full blown thalassaemia. If he only has one abnormal gene, he will have thalassaemia trait which is much less severe.
People who carry thalassaemia genes are most likely to be descendents of Mediterranean countries, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. You and your partner might both want to be tested to see whether you are carriers for thalassaemia and make further decisions about antenatal tests based on the results of you own blood tests.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

Thalassemia? I was tested for that (for some reason!) recently, the midewife said it was a new thing they were doing round here.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -

Steve has decendents in his family who were Spanish, that's why the midwife suggested I took the test.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I had an antenatal at the hospital and they told me (in a very blase way) Oh, I've stuck your results in your notes, they're ok... I'd forgotten about them to be honest but would assume they'd ring you if anything was wrong...
And candice, I'm 14 weeks too and haven't been able to do trousers up since week 8! Oh and I'm no skinny minnie either, I can gain a good stone before there's any noticable difference lol... I've gone up a couple of lb but can only contribute that to this baby's love of all things meat!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

I had the test too (no idea why) - came back negative. I had to phone for the results, they didn't contact me. Thalassemia is quite common in my SILs family - her neice has to have regular blood transfusions. I'd never heard of it before, but it is very common in some groups.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
.
If there was a problem with any of my results, do you think I would have heard anything by now? (I'll be 16 weeks on Thursday) Or do you find out at your next appointment??
I had bloods taken at booking appt (just under 8 weeks) - they phoned me a week later to tell me to o and get a prescription for iron as results showed I was anaemic - so, yes, assume all is well until next appt - but make sure they do have the results at that appt, just to make sure they haven't got lost (v occasionally happens!)

Well another crappy day
WARNING LONG MOAN COMING UP!
Feel free to skip
Firstly - had docs appointment just before lunch and he's prescribed gaviscon (the HUGEST bottle EVER!) and more cyclizine... joy of joys... And obviously things could improve suddenly but as my mum had morning sickness all the way through it's possible I will have the same issue... grand.
Then I drove about 45 mins and stopped off at Tesco for some lunch - waited for the prescription to be made up and felt soooo poorly... nearly asked if I sit down somewhere... Got to the check out and nearly passed out! Managed to get myself picked up just before I dropped on the floor, staggered to the seat that was thankfully just opposite the till and just sat there till it passed - not ONE member of staff asked if I was ok! It was a nice lady shopper who was infront of me who was very concerned and asked if I was ok - I just told her it was morning sickness and I would be ok in a second which she seemed happy to accept... obviously had it herself at some point
Got my shopping and then sat in the car till the shaking stopped and I felt well enough to drive. Managed to get to the office with about half an hour to spare for my meeting with HR...
And that's when the fun REALLY started! I was already emotional so was bursting into tears for no reason which didn't make it any easier...
The HR lady and my boss were on a mission from what I can tell. They don't like me working from home - if i'm not well enough to come to work I should call in sick... they couldn't come up with an answer to where they stood on the fact that I mainly feel sick when i have to drive - so the GETTING to work is what makes me too sick to work, I can work fine from home 99% of the time. When I throw up it's not a problem because I'm home and once I've thrown up I usually feel miles better. So do I call in sick when I feel well, or do I drive - get sick - wait for it to pass before going home sick or call my husband to come fetch me? Oddly enough they had no reply to that. And the fact my boss works from home more than she's in the office was handily unmentioned... I know she's ill but surely it can't be one rule for the goose and another for the gander?
AND if I am off sick I shouldn't be working... so... the fact that when I was off sick (signed off by the doctor) I had to not only do the reporting for our biggest client but also dial in to the monthly review meeting? Which I knew was naughty of them and I could have said no but no-one else can do that reporting because we don't have the resources to have anyone else trained to do it.
And finally they were so proud of having given me more accounts that are phone based - apparently this is ALL because of my condition... had nothing to do with the fact we're 2 heads short in our department and there physically isn't enough hours in the day to deal in person with all the accounts. And it was handily forgotten that I have gone from 3 accounts to 9 and have been told I have to go for a face to face meeting with one of my so called phone supported accounts already... was asked if I would be ok, didn't wait for an answer from me before basically telling the client I'll be there in person. Thanks!
Soooooo not been a good day. I'm waiting for the official letter from them about what was discussed in the meeting before deciding on what to do... Legally I think they are on very thin ice... Telling me that I can't work from home "due to health" although it's driving to work that makes me ill at present, when my boss does exactly the same! That just screams discrimination to me!
