  • I know I am quite old fashioned but are any of you guys NOT finding out the sex of your baby? It seems I am in the minority when it comes to this and most people find out. I want a good old fashioned surprise when the twins make their first appearance into the world. :j

I am 19 weeks now and still hardly any movement felt. I can go days without feeling any movement at all. This is my 3rd baby so was expecting to feel alot more movement by now. Saw midwife on Wednesday and she said not to worry but I am.

I hardly felt anything unti labout week 20, now the little !!!!!! won't sit at peace:p He's spent all afternoon kicking the edge of my desk which isn't so great when I'm caught in the middle:p

  • Hello, can I join in too please?
I've hesitated a bit about joining this thread because I had a missed m/c in June and didn't want to be getting too optimistic this time around :o. However, I've decided to try and be more positive and not to worry too much about my 12 week scan! I saw my doctor earlier this week which was reassuring...she wasn't able to find the heartbeat when she tried but she had pre-warned me that it was unlikely she would as it was still rather early! (I should probably also explain that we are living in Belgium for a couple of years and the healthcare system is very different here, which is why I'm seeing a gynaecologist rather than a midwife etc. etc.)

I think that I've found the last version of the list..it was on page 88?! Hopefully I've stuck my name in at the right place, but given my level of competence over the last few weeks I'm not banking on it.

Anyway...I'm looking forward to chatting with you all and being able to moan about how sick I feel!!

We definitely won't be finding out. They don't let you know at any scan here anyway what you're expecting but we don't want to know so that's good. It wouldn't change anything depending on what 'kind' it is, so we want the surprise at the birth.

Icklebeans, I'm with you. I don't want to find out the sex of the baby, in fact the more I mull it over the more sure I become that I want it to be a surprise... but OH is a nightmare, he desperately wants to know... He also guesses all birthday and christmas presents and usually ends up buying me extra things because he can't help but give them to me (I don't mind this part!)

I was trying to expain to him that if we find out what we're having and then he goes around telling everyone what it is and what name we've chosen then nobody will get excited when it's born... Rather than 'ooh, what did you have, what did you call it?' It will just be 'Oh...'

I have until 12th January (gah, 22 week scan, it's not fair!) to persuade him I'm right... and being his wife, he should know that by now ;)

  • Welcome Hedgehog fingers crossed for all to go well this time.

Congrats on some good news Greent :j  :j a little toast now and bigger(alcohol free of course) ones when you get full news.

Im afraid I really want to know sex too, cant help but liken it to eating out...If I cant decide between 2 meals when I ultimately choose I tend to forget what i ordered til it arrives, BY WHICH TIME i want the other one!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

God forbid they tell me it wrong  ages yet though

This happened with my sister, they found out it was a boy and decided on the name (I'll call him Dave, not his real name lol), and for the last 2 months of pregnancy they would say things like "when dave's born, we're going to do this..." and "we've got this for Dave" etc. I know they are already a 'real person' before being born but we found it freaky to hear the baby spoken of in this way, and like you say, when he was born there was no surprise as such, and happy as we all were, it was a bit deflating for them not to have to announce the s ex and name to everyone.

Also recently have heard two stories of being informed it was one s ex at a scan and it was wrong, meaning BIG surprise at the birth when the couple were expecting what they had been told and it turned out to be the other kind!!

My other trouble too is I tend to go off things.. eg, if DD had been born the week I found out I was pregnant she would of been called Isobel... By the time I had her I was sick of the sound of it... So if DH goes round telling everyone we're calling it something then there's no going back if I go off it is there!

  • Woohoo greent, thats great news!

Welcome Mrs Q and hedgehog28 - sadly alot of us on here have previously had m/c's so we can totally sympathise with how you are feeling. However, there seems to be a lot of lucky baby dust in the air at the mo and hopefully the time to your first scans will fly past! You'll be amazed how quickly you zip up the list (I had been following this thread for what seemed like weeks but didn't want to "jinx" anything so didn't include myself until after the 12 wk scan).
I know I am quite old fashioned but are any of you guys NOT finding out the sex of your baby? It seems I am in the minority when it comes to this and most people find out. I want a good old fashioned surprise when the twins make their first appearance into the world.

Icklebeans - I'm old fashioned and haven't found out with either of mine. Now I'm 39wks and wishing I knew as it would perhaps make it easier for DD to understand whether it was a brother or sister?! I like the idea though of the added surprise at the end of the labour.

We also didn't "decide" on a name until DD was born, same this time around. I think (perhaps I'm odd?!) that you need to "see" bubs before knowing whether a name will suit?! Has to be said, getting fed up calling this one "it"!! Everyone has taken to calling "it" a "him" but who knows? Oh well, only 3 weeks tops til we know one way or the other :T Saw mw earlier but no significant news to report - Toto, (due date buddy!) are you still out there cleaning like mad or have you beaten me to it?!
