Summary
Three-bedroom house, 3 doors, 10 windows
Anglian took 1h 30m: around £6k
Everest took 2h 45m: around £20k0 -
I lost £3000 due to ColdSeals shoddy products (coldseal's gone bust:j ).
Now i have new windows from a local DG firm which are 10x's better.
My advise, Don't trust a salesman's demo window, any good DG company will allow you to visit the factory for a tour.:T
Money saving is now a way of life:cool:0 -

A6 failed to mention synseal profile as seen on TV. A lot of people will bamboozle you with different makes of PVC profile. Keep taking advice on here. My recommendation is Synseal, although Rehau (in my opinion) are not far behind. Personally, I wouldn't touch Kommerling. They are NOT a big player in the PVC profile market. They are a German company, and they only got a foothold becuase they manufacture the best hot-melt sealant and distribute it through their distributor, Thermoseal (Birmingham, Leigh & London).
Hope this helps
synseal is at the cheaper end of the profile market from a company that started out as the shield window system in 1999 taken from here
http://www.synseal.co.uk/shield.asp
Kommerlings history however can be traced back to 1897 taken from here

the germans have been making and using upvc profiles far longer than us in the uk so are far more advanced than we are in the uk
http://www.vekauk.com/history.php veka started 1967
http://www.rehau.co.uk/company/about.us/about.us.shtml rehau 1948
http://www.profile22.co.uk/about-us-2/ 1988
we use Kommerling but would recommend rehau, veka and profile 22 and no we do not make our own windows like many other companies Dont this allows me to use the best products on the market and when we find a product which we are happy with we stay with them . we have used all of the above products and used others we used spectus /veka 3years ,profile 22 4years rehau for 12 years and and have been using kommerling now for 8 months
williamrobb88 may i ask your connection with jackson joinery because all you seem to be doing is spamming there web address and not acually adding anything to the topics you are posting in.i notice you make sealed units for double glazing do you supply to them????? and thats why you have posted on 3 topics today and each time people have been asking for advice and all you have given very little but each time told them to get a price from your friendsif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0 -
We had a major firm come give us a quote for 2100x1800 french doors, he was here for 15mins, never gave us a price. Left to send us a quote in the post.
We then received 4 months of phone calls from a scottish lady in a call centre asking if we were happy, then if we wanted them to call again, and also had we received the 'special' discount voucher.
On many occasions she called, it started out polite, then she was told to stick it up her ***.
The 'special' voucher wa £500 off voucher, all good but only on an order of £2000 or more.
Well the best quote we received for the doors were £810 all fitted, 2 doors, open from inside out.
Give me a quote for £2000, and im not interested. PVC should not degrade, the colour may change over time, and the mechanical systems may degrade, but surely these can be replaced in time..
Crazy..

try the GGF their federation of the better window companies, and effectively underwrite their members (they'll ensure work is completed if a member fails)
sashmanBuying quality goods which last, should be an investment that saves money. :T
Buying cheap products which fail, wastes money and costs twice as much in the long run. :mad:0 -
6 windows in a small 3-bed semi
plus
1 front door
1 small side panel of glass
plus fitting
plus lead
= £2500 from a local fella as a foreigner.
a larger firm did the hard sell for 20mins and came back with £2900 - i was expecting about £5000 the way he talked!
