many wooden frames can be repaired at a fraction of the price of new, and in my opinion, nasty plastic windows
save yourself money and dont waste earths resources
Totally agree. The payback period on fitting double glazing can be dozens of years.. and you will probably need to replace them after 10 years anyway as the uPVC fails and the moisture absorber runs out.
Have you worked out how much money you think they will save you per year, compared to the cost of fitting double glazing? It rarely makes good financial sense.0 -

Yes, I'd just like to confirm my experience of Everest with those of others. I actually wanted a flat roof re-surfacing. (Everest seem to do most things these days) Certainly the sales patter was smooth and well-rehearsed. Indeed, I had expected a high price.
The initial figure was introduced at £5500, but I was told there were discounts available. To cut a long story short, the salesman come 'down' to £3500, but oddly wanted to charge me an undisclosed sum for scaffolding on top (health & safety). Anyway, I sent him on his way to then receive a number of calls from his manager offering to sweeten the deal.
The roof subsequently cost me £1100 with another firm using a national product with a 20 year g'tee- a day's work for 2 men. I did expect Everest to be expensive, but they seem widly out of step with everyone else.
I am now seeking replacment windows following a botched job with another company 8 years ago. I'd happily look at Everest, but can't be troubled to go through the same old routine again.
14 windows, no bays, 10 with two openers .... any idea what sort of figure in these credit crunch times!
(The original UPVC windows were knackered by the fitters who didn't fit spacers and so bent the frames!!! Thanks xxxxxxxx windows!!)0 -
Had two quotes so far: Anglian and Everest.
Never realised how difficult it would be to chose who to go for. Why is there no independent "What Window?" type advice out there!0 -
I've got four quotes for mine. The cheapest was approx £5000, the most expensive was £6700! The cheapest - a local 'one man band' who came recommended and has been woking in the area for about 20 years. He uses Profile 22 windows so a reasonable quality. No guarantee if he goes bust or moves on, but I'm not willing to pay £1600 just for that.0

The ASA, after various tests on products compared to all other major competititors agreed that we could keep our motto "fits the best". This was after a gruelling court case where we had to prove the fact, otherwise we would of had to drop the slogan. The ASA ruled, and I quote "The advertisers proved their standard products had a significant advantage above their competitors". I refer you to Carlsberg which is now "probably" the best lager in the world after being ordered to change their slogan.
By all means if you want to save a few pennies and repent in 5 years time, then knock yourself out. Just remember, that there is a legitamate reason that Everest are allowed to use that slogan.
Which court was this case heard in?
If your products are so good why are do so many of your sales calls last in excess of four hours, way beyond a reasonable length of time needed to measure up and provide product details and a quote? Why are your sales people never allowed to offer discounts without phoning a friend?
I look forward to your answers."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -

When the salesman arrives, always start the conversation with three main points:
1. I only have an hour then you will have to leave (finished or not)
2. I won't be giving any commitment today
3. I will be getting quotes from a number of suppliers (no, I won't tell you who  ) but won't be basing my decision purely on price.0 -
Better still, don't deal with any company that employs sales people, they are, at the end of the day just another layer of expense that will have to be paid for by .....you guessed it....the customer.;)0
