I get everything delivered to work. I order lots online and can't remember the last thing that had to go to my home address.DFW Nerd 0350

I've ranted about DHL before but it is worth doing again!
I buy a product, I PAY for delivery. If I pay for delivery I expect delivery (within reason) at my convenience. Unfortunately, if I buy online or mail order I have absolutely no say in who delivers my product. If it is DHL my heart sinks and I know it is going to be incredibly hard work!
DHL only deliver from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm on weekdays. That is when most people are at work. If I were not at work, I probably couldn't afford to buy the product they are delivering. They do not contact you to tell you when they are delivering so that you could, perhaps, arrange to be in. Although, surprisingly, I can't just drop everything and inconvenience my colleagues at a day's notice sit around at home for a day, like piffy on a rock bun.
If you can't be in during their delivery times - probably because you actually, amazingly, have A JOB, they expect you to go to their distribution centre. I don't live in a remote area - I live in a city. However, their only distribution centre in my entire region is in another city 30 miles away.
I find this a quite ridiculous business model. They working on the basis of the 1950s with a housewife at home every day. How many deliveries are taken back to the depot on this basis!
And DON'T get me on to having to phone a premium rate number and listen to a long recorded message before I can reorganise my delivery!
It infuriates me that when ordering online you don't get any indication of which company will deliver. If I knew it was DHL I would, quite simply, not order the product.
Some people complain my posts aren't all that helpful. Here I'll list all that companies that you can phone up and choose your delivery time at any point during week at any time during the day or night:

I had a DHL order delivered at 10.30 - at night!!!!!!
I was pleased though, it saved a drive to the depot.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Deanos, you beat me to it!
OP: The problem isn't with DHL. The problem is that the companies you are buying things from are ordering the WRONG delivery service from DHL.
I find that some companies use DHL At Home, others use the 'ordinary' DHL service.
With DHL At Home, I either pop round to the delivery man's house or he re-delivers in a time window we agree on.
With 'ordinary' DHL, I collect from the depot or arrange to be in when they re-deliver.
Makes perfect sense to me.
Don't complain about the delivery company, complain about the retailer/supplier.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

I work for a company that does that, 24/7 delivery times if you want it, and are willing to pay for it. Any sameday company can do this, but dedicated deliveries are expensive.
However as everyone wants things cheap the cheapist delivery services are used.
Why didn't the OP find out what delivery company the supplier used BEFORE he ordered?0 -
If you think thats bad...anyone thinking of ordering bargains online for Christmas at the last minute should remember that around these next weeks approaching Christmas delivery companies take on a lot of unreliable temporary staff-get your stuff delivered early or it may affect your blood pressure-even when you stay in all day they will tell you they tried to deliver and you weren't in.0
