CREDIT CARDS , the poor mans feel good factor in my book, been there had the lot no thanks , lets face it a credit card is for something you cant afford nothing to do with budgeting well

Not always true.

Some of us pay the full amount every month by Direct Debit.

I have two credit cards, one of which I use for online purchases, one for everyday purchases. If a company goes bust after you have ordered something, or even after you have it, if goes wrong and it was paid for by Visa they are jointly liable for refunding you.

My Tesco card gives me extra points. Multiplied by four for Deals. I got good RAC breakdown cover via Tesco Deals. Had I not had the card I would have had to have paid over £100.

If the worst happens and I need a loan for, say, emergency repairs, I am more likely to get one if I have a good credit record. You don't get a credit record unless you borrow and pay back.

I consider that I budget well. I know how much I have in every one of my accounts, current, savings, ISA and credit card. I am on track to pay the last of my mortgage in December. The real trick with budgeting is to make the best use of the tools and offers available. And don't spend imaginary money (the cause of the current crisis).
• agree with most of what you say however in the majority of cases credit cards are used by many who cant realy afford what they are buying , i budgeted very well however being made redundent twice in as many months put me in dire straights and a debt spiral beleive me all the credit cards are un sympathetic when you lose your job and the insurance you take out never kicks in as it should , im out of all that now and to be honest dont want credit of any kind other than mortgage i currently have, my motto is work hard save as much as you can and pay for your luxurys with money in your bank the old saying pay for it when you have the cash in the hand is true to live your life in true debt free style i owe nowt apart from the mortgage and happily a tenneants paying that.

MBNA have always been good to me.

They even refunded all my charges over the last 6 years without any hassle at all. :D

I had an MBNA with a long 0% balance transfer rate on and the minimum was paid manually each month.

I had serious personal circumstances at home one month, which was also the month my MBNA statement never arrived. Due to the circumstances, I never realised until the next statement arrived and I had a missed payment charge on it and they'd removed my 0% balance transfer rate.

I phoned up to apologise and to ask if they could remove the charge and reinstate the 0% as it was a genuine first offence, but they said no. So I put it down to my own silly fault.

A few days later I got a nasty letter about my financial difficulties. Puzzled, I phoned up and they said when I spoke to the person about reinstating my 0% offer, I told them I was in financial difficulties  I said I did not but this incorrect note could not be removed from my account.

I was given a series of hoops to jump through, but everytime I jumped to get my 0% back, the rules changed. In the end I gave up and transferred the balance to a lifetime low interest rate from Barclaycard.

I would never trust MBNA again after the lies I was told in order to get my 0% back, but I never did get it back.
Here I go again on my own....

I use my cards as budgeting tools every month, cash flow is an important factor in financial management and my Visa cards help me with this, I work my @rse off every month as an under-paid IT Manager and just scrape through, without my cards I would be knackered, why should I go without when I have two lazy b@stards living next door to me who will not get off there @rse to do a decent days work but yet can afford to spend all day in the Garden building sheds et al? !!!!!! is going on with the world, I can assure you mate if was hourly paid and paid for the 15-20 hours per week "free" overtime that I do for my company I would not have to lean on Visa every month. I can see your point and I do agree with it; however I use my cards as true financial tools to help me budget better.

Hi i kinda dont agree with you on that one as i myself have just cleared two credit cards and two store cards and i have a big overdraft that i need to clear next. the only way that i am going to be able to do this sensibly IS to get another credit card that can transfer my overdraft. If your sensible it does work. The other reason why I am getting another one is for any purchases that i can AFFORD that are over £100 to protect myself from companies going bust. Hope this makes sense.
